Hypertension is a chronic disease resulting from either poor diet or factors like age, genetics and others. It is the measure of the force of blood, which pushes against the blood vessels especially the arteries. According to my plate there are particular foods, which contribute to my high blood pressure. Too much of alcohol in my diet, smoking, stress, overweight and lack of physical exercise have worsened my condition. Alcohol causes a temporary spike in blood pressure and leads to long-term problems and also contains calories, which lead to obesity (Holland,)
The high amount of glucose in my diet has made a contribution as well. Sweetened drinks lead to weight gain and obesity. High intake of sodium/salt increases the chances of high blood pressure and heart disease. Those are some of the weaknesses in my diet that need to be given a second thought. I have to reduce my alcohol intake, take at least six spoons of sugar as recommended, limit sodium intake through taking full 2400mg of salt each day and avoid cooking with salt whenever possible.
High-fat content, especially the saturated one was another weakness in my diet. I had to improve by taking a low-fat diet that consisted a lot of fiber, such as wholegrain and plenty of fruit and vegetable which assist to lower blood pressure. Fruits and vegetables, which include vitamins, mineral fiber will help to lower blood pressure and in turn facilitate weight loss. Exercise on a daily basis will lower the blood pressure by maintaining the proper condition of blood vessels and the heart. Regular exercise will also ensure a constant weight loss, which will consequently reduce blood pressure. I should quit some behavioral activities such as smoking because their intake will cause the arteries to narrow which leads to high risk of heart attack and stroke.
