First of all, the main Cause of obesity is a permanent discrepancy between the amounts of energy received and used by a person. Therefore, if a person eats high-calorie food with little or no move, obesity will come sooner or later. Of course, those who have a genetic predisposition to weight gain will become obese sooner than others who do not have such a predisposition.
An important role is played by age, sex and occupational factors. Everyone knows that the older a person is, the slower his metabolism is; hence, the extra weight is gained easier. In general, women get fat faster than men, due to the relatively small amount of muscles in their bodies and some hormonal peculiarities of women`s organisms.
There are also the hypothalamic and endocrine obesity. These kinds of obesity are associated with impaired hypothalamic function or are a symptom of a primary disease of the endocrine glands. Sometimes obesity can be a symptom of serious illness (for example, cancer).
Among the consequences of obesity, the following can be mentioned. Obesity may be the catalyst for the development of a huge number of diseases. Huge weight creates an extra pressure on all organs of human body. Human cardiovascular system is largely affected by the obesity. Pressure on the heart increases, blood pressure and cholesterol level rise, as well as glucose level. All these increase the risk of stroke, heart attack, as well as many other related diseases.
Diabetes is another serious danger threatens people who are overweight. The likelihood of diabetes of the second type increases in forty times. Hormonal disorders also constitute a serious danger for people with excess weight. Additionally, among the consequences of obesity, there are also irregular menstruation and infertility among women and impotence in men.
