Champ (conversation, help, activity, movement, participation, and success) is a technique that is used to manage a classroom. It is geared towards creating an atmosphere where students feel motivated, responsible and engaged in the classroom activities. The classroom activities are structured through detailed instructions given by the teacher. The model concentrates on the student behavior and how they respond to instructions given by the teacher. The success and implementation of the model depend on how the students respond to the instructions given by the teacher. Moreover, the model is designed to give each student equal opportunity to participate in the classroom activities such as answering questions. The model also controls the movement of students in the class. It also creates a routine or schedules of the class (using the model for a while the students got to know what is their role and expected of them once they are in the class).
Charlotte Danielson model, on the other hand, is designed on the four components i.e. planning, classroom environment, instructions and professional responsibility. This model is geared toward helping a teacher to organize her/his work beforehand. The model is keen on the teacher’s role and responsibility in teaching and management of class affairs. Here, the teacher plans how he/she will conduct classroom affairs and how the students will be assessed. This helps to create an atmosphere and environment of respect and good behavior. The model also depicts how a teacher can incorporate the community and the families of the students in the classroom matters.
Both models are geared towards creating conducive learning environment for the students. They both concentrate on improving the behavior of students in the class whereby each student is given equal opportunity and space to participate in the classroom affairs. However, champ model is geared towards students and how to manage student's movement. On the other hand, Charlotte Danielson model is geared towards the teacher. This model shows how a teacher can plan and evaluate how he/she conducts the affairs of the class. The model concentrates more on the teacher behavior and responsibility than on the students.
