On When Hitting Someone Is The Right Course Of Action Essay Template For Faster Writing

Throughout my life, I had been taught that I should not hit people. I think this is common sense, and my parents had taught me this since I was very little. Nevertheless, there was a moment in my childhood where I believe that the correct course of action was to actually hit somebody. As a child, I was playing at recess and one of the school bullies came up to me, and told me that if I did not hit my best friend, that he would beat of both up. I hit her because I did not want both of use to be hurt in an even worse manner. Although this may seem like a very inconsequential and meaningless story, I believe that it reveals what I believe with regards to my moral self.
I believe that this story allows one to see the importance of context when thinking about laws. In this sense, laws are usually given with an almost empty context; they do not take into account the other possibilities that the person may have at his or her disposal. In this sense, they do not consider that sometimes one only has decisions between horrible, law-breaking actions. Sometimes, all the actions that one has at his or her disposal are immoral, so it is important to take context into account when regarding laws. Even though I did not want to hit my best friend, something that went against what I had been taught as the law, I thought that it was the right course of action because we would both have been beaten up if I did not do it.
Therefore, instead of having a law-based morality system, I think that one founded on priorities would be closer to being right. Given the contextual reality of laws, it is important not to just take the imperative of behavioral duty into account, but the possibility of performing other actions. The problem of establishing what one should do is very difficult, and sometimes it is more advantageous to take into account what underlies the action, instead of the conduct itself.
Nevertheless, this may leave some astray as to what the correct way of acting is. In my perspective, this should be determined by the people that may be affected by the situation, attempting to provide the greatest amount of good to as many as possible, while not harming others too much.
As one can see, almost-meaningless stories from one’s childhood can be directly related to the moral problems that one has to face on a daily basis. It provides a dramatic set-up to show that sometimes the actions that are universally sanctioned as wrong by the law are actually the correct behavior that one should execute. In this sense, it is important to take the context into account when establishing the morality of a given action.
Behaviors should be qualified as right or wrong based on many other factors, not just if the comply with the law of the society that they live in. As an action that may be correct in some circumstances may be wrong in others, so may a lawful action sometimes be an incorrect behavior, and the right one be illegal. In this sense, I still believe that I did the right thing by hitting my best friend when I was a child, because led to us not having to face a worse consequence. It is astonishing to see how simple childhood stories can invite us to consider important aspects of the human experience, such as what is right and what is wrong.
