Problem Sheet 6: Sampling Plan
My research question is Are online courses an effective method of learning?
My intended sample (participants in my study) consists of (state who and how many):
The participants in my study would consist of 170 out of 200 seventh grade students.
Key demographics (characteristics of the sample) are as follows (e.g., age range, sex, distribution, ethnic breakdown, socioeconomic status, location [where are these subjects located?], etc.):
Age range: 14 - 15 year-old students
Sex distribution: 85 Female and 85 Male students
Ethnic Breakdown: African Americans, Asians, Caucasians, and Hispanics
Socioeconomic Status: Students from the Middle, and High Socioeconomic Statuses
I intend to use the Simple Random method of Sampling.
I will gain access to and/or get contact information for my sample through the following steps:
The students will be asked to fill out a numbered information sheet. Random numbers will be generated to draw out the information sheets of the participants.
What, if any, are the inclusion/exclusion criteria for participation in your study:
There will be no exclusion criteria in selecting the participant. Each will be given an equl opportunity of participating in the study.
External validity:
It can be used to generalize all seventh-grade students in the Seattle, Washington School Systems.
If applicable, to what settings/conditions could you generalize the results of your study (ecological validity)?
The results of my study could be used to generalize all freshman highschool students.
If results are not generalizable, why not?
The results cannot be used to generalize because it does not represent all Socioeconomic Status Levels.
