In this case, as the leader of the project team, one will be tasked with the function of providing the direction to the team and ensuring each individual fully understands their role in the project. For instance, designers and engineers will be needed to provide the prototype and proof of concept by ensuring the product’s functionality is working as expected or meets its objectives. On the other hand, marketers will be responsible for the formulation of effective marketing strategies and campaigns geared towards increasing the reach of the product. Considering that this is a team effort, despite their roles, all individuals will be required to work together to meet the agreed objectives. In the process, the owner of the personal project will all the while be learning essential leadership skills that will be required for the next level upon the product garnering more than 50,000 users.
If successful, the individual will be promoted to a Project Manager and will have the pleasure of taking his/her team and product to the market. In this regard, one will have the required resources on the company’s tab at his/her disposal. This concept is supported since one has been able to lead his/her team effectively to provide the proof of concept, one that is defined by the product’s usability and interest in the market that has seen it attract more than 50,000 users. This aspect is also driven by the indication that one has been able to use the available resources, proving they have been able to use their creativity and innovation to meet the product’s needs. As a result, their ability to succeed in this endeavor will be rewarded with additional funding resources. One will, therefore, be inclined to use the additional resources in a lean manner, following their conditioning during their product development journey.
Furthermore, the successful team will also enjoy additional support regarding expertise in terms of the availability of the company’s personnel considered necessary to fine tune the product’s needs concerning functionality and design. This aspect will lead to the development of a market-ready product.
The development of this culture will be advantageous to both the company and the employees. In the first instance, the company stands to gain regarding employee loyalty and satisfaction, leading to improved performance and consequently, higher profit margins. On the other hand, employees will gain from exploring their creativity and innovativeness and later rewarded by the freedom and professional growth brought by their participation in their personal projects.
