- This article discusses how Washington Redskins have had issues with their trademark, which was targeted towards marketing and improving the image of the football team. Furthermore, the concept of rebranding and financial impact on the organization is discussed. The major reason for not changing its name has been attributed to the good financial gain it has received over the years.
- The name Redskins has come under a lot of scrutiny because of the racial concerns or message it displays. However, the Washington Redskins owner has refused to change the name because it has assisted the football team to enjoy substantial financial gains. This has been indicated in the study. Legal suits have been filed to make the team change their name, which has threatened to cause the team to lose its trademark. For the owner, a name change would be welcomed if it increases the financial earnings of the football team. Further, a name change can significantly affect the value of the team and the traditions it has developed over the years.
- The name of the redskin has become an issue due to its relation and implication to racism. Civil groups are putting pressure on the team to change its name, and this has resulted to legal battles. To some extent, the refusal of the team to change its name may significantly affect the organization’s image especially since issues of racism are taken very seriously. Management of the team can take this opportunity to develop and rebrand the team image, which may seek to gain more fans and boost their sales. Further, prior to developing a new logo, the management of an organization needs to take the various views of the customers to ensure that whatever the new brand is, it represents the previous traditions of the of the organization while trying to incorporate the future of the goals of the organization. Impact on the market sales of a new logo on its various products becomes a very crucial element. Target market research needs to be conducted to determine if rebranding can significantly boost or derail the organization. Additionally, in any organization, cost analysis is vital before making any significant changes that affect the image of the organization.
- This article has provided me with insights on how culture may have great implications on the image of an organization. The name and logo of the organization may have different perceptions and image on different members of the society. This may either increase their customer base or reduce them. Further, it is important for analysis both on a cultural and financial perspective to be done prior to an organization making any big change that may influence its image.
