Management
The organization we have selected for the purpose of achieving the objective of this task has been facing very serious organizational problems which need to be resolved in a strategic manner so that optimal productivity levels can be achieved and stakeholders are kept delighted. The main issues being faced by the chosen organization named Sensient Flavors is of poor communication among employees and between employees and manager apart from the safety and security issues. Communication is one thing which serves as the key element for the success recipe of any organization. When communication in an organization is smooth, the concerns of employees reach the management openly and the management tries its best to compensate its employees. On the other hand, effective communication also ensures that the management can also make certain that the employees understand what the organization wants from them and how they can contribute towards the achievement of ultimate organizational objectives (Shockley-Zalabak, Pamela 47).
At the selected organization, employees do not feel motivated to meet their goals and objectives and they fear to talk to each other or sharing any information with their colleagues. The overall work environment is not very friendly and the degree of politics within the organization is also quite high which is why employees feel reluctant while getting into a casual conversation with their peers. Sometimes, employees feel that by sharing their knowledge and personal goals with others, they would ruin their chances of getting a promotion.
The employees also feel reluctant to communicate with the management on issues which hamper their productivity. Sometimes, employees come up with highly creative and innovative ideas but they do not inform about them to the senior management because of the poor organizational culture. Moreover, they fear that the management may not trust the opinions of mere employees and may reject them. As a result of poor communication between employees and managers, managers are never able to understand that characteristic of employees, their expectations, and motivational factors. So the policies and strategies which are formulated and implemented by the organization for the purpose of attaining more profits and market share simply do not engage employees’ ideas and consents and are completely one sided. Such strategies when executed make the employees unhappy and they feel worthless and insulted.
Possible Recommendation and Strategies
In order to ensure that communication among employees and between employees and managers improve, the organizational culture would require a serious change. A culture which encourages participation, encouragement, friendliness and strong communication motivates the employees to be more productive and they feel more valued and respected. The managers and employees need to be trained on the significance of communication and the benefits it can bring for the employees as well the organization in the long run. Communication barriers need to be removed through training such that employees realize that the real success lies in sharing their knowledge and issues with each other and better and effective solutions can be implemented for gaining long term advantages. Management should be trained to appreciate employees on attaining targets so that they feel valued and productive. Management should also encourage employees to provide input for making important organizational decisions because when collective efforts are made towards gaining success, the results are remarkable. Communication channels such as emails, fax, telephone, face to face sessions and memos should be used effectively by organizational members (Fugate, Mel and Kinicki, Angelo 55).
