Social Mission Goals
The overall mission of New Hope for Kids is to help children who are going through difficult times such as illnesses or the loss of loved ones. It is the goal of the organization to somehow make these children happier despite the struggles they’re going through and to make their struggles a bit easier to bear.
New Hope for Kids provides children with the emotional support that would help them get through the difficult times. They also provide children with their wishes to help them get by and to make their lives more meaningful.
Current Services
As an organization that consists mainly of volunteer workers, funds are obtained from the donations of community service organizations, foundations, corporations, and individuals. The organization makes sure that 90% of the funds raised go to their program services.
In particular, the organization currently has two programs for providing the support that the children and their families need. One is the Center for Grieving Children, which helps children and their families in dealing with their grief and their loss upon the death of someone they love. The other is Children’s Wish, which grants the wishes of children aged 3 to 18 who are suffering from life-threatening ailments.
Center for Grieving Children
This program provides children aged 3 to 18 with a supportive and safe environment where they can grieve the death of their loved one and where they can share their experiences and feelings with others who are going through the same situation. The Littles groups are for children aged 3 to 6; the Middles groups are for children aged 7 to 12; and the Teen groups are for teenagers aged 13 to 18.
The organization encourages children to grieve verbally and through positive and creative play while being surrounded by peers. This program allows children to begin and continue their grief journey where they eventually find hope, renewal, and healing.
In addition, this program provides support for the entire family as well. In particular, New Hope for Kids provides support for families in the forms of summer camps, which are available all year round; family events; referral and information services; community awareness projects; and parent support groups.
Children’s Wish
This program is a non-profit charity program that grants the wishes of children aged 3 to 18 who are suffering from life-threatening illnesses or illnesses that can shorten the children’s full life expectancy.
New Hope for Kids provides these children with their wishes and with follow-up support in order to lighten the children and their families’ burdens and to make sure that the children have an improved quality of life for the time that they have remaining.
Aside from granting children their wishes, New Hope for Kids also provides these children and their families with additional support and services in the form of fun activities that enable them to get emotional support and at the same time, share their resources with each other. This prevents them from feeling isolated and hopeless because of their illness and grief. This also allows the families to establish lasting relationships with each other.
