As a top organic company, it has stayed in the top position since 1998. Recently, the main competitor has become a threat to the company because they are using cheap guerilla tactics. The boss is worried about the competitor's new method, and he has asked several people to make up negative reviews about the competitor's products and spread untrue reviews through social media sites and blogs. He has also asked about spreading emails that complain about the safety of the competitor's products.
If I support the boss and obey his campaign, I will likely keep the job that I have. The viral marketing campaign will make other consumers believe that the competitor's products are unsafe, and then their sales will diminish. As a result, the company will keep its top position in the market, and clear the threat that the competitor poses. On the other hand, the competitor may figure out what the company has done, and sue. If this occurs, the company will be ruined, and all employees who were involved will face serious legal problems. Furthermore, the marketing method that the company is considering is unethical. Some of the company's staff will more than likely not agree to comply with the demands, and will be disappointed with the direction of the company. Furthermore, these individuals may leave the company, and tell the competitor the truth.
If I do not support the company, I will more than likely lose my job. The competitor may come up with a better way to compete competitively, and then the company will lose its top position in the market. There is a positive side to this, as the company will not have to worry about moral and legal problems related to the viral marketing campaign. The company will essentially be competing equally with its main competitor and will earn the respect of other companies and consumers. The employees will love the good behavior of the company, and may work harder to help the company out of the bad situation. Each individual within the company will work together to find a new method to compete against other companies. This will hopefully result in good profit, allowing the company to maintain its leading position in the market; and with good performance in the market, my job will no longer be in jeopardy.
I have selected to go against the company's idea, since the purpose is to destroy the competitor, and increase the profit. However, in executing the viral marketing campaign, it will be difficult for the company to achieve what it is setting out to do and it may have the opposite result. If the campaign is avoided, there will be no moral or legal problems, and attention can be put to better use to improve the quality of the products. Also, the company will ensure that the passion of its employees is kept intact, and that the staff will work harder to save. Although, there is a possibility of losing the top position in the market, the company will earn the respect of other companies, and keep a significant part of its marketing shares.
