Pornography and technology.
In the developing world and, some dark culturally rooted world, consider pornography a menace. A taboo and a topic that should be totally ignored and buried and not discussed in public. These are people's beliefs which they are entitled. Pornography, speaking from a neutral point of view, has fostered a lot of change in the technology industry. According to Forbes, the porn industry is estimated to be worth fourteen billion dollars. It is, therefore, wise not to ignore the fact that the industry is a strong driving point in the technology sector. This paper will explore and discuss the impact of pornography on technology and how pornography has mutated to fit into the current technology.
When it comes to innovation, pornography has become one of the primary drivers of change. Until the late twentieth century, pornography was just normal copulation. After the end of the twentieth century, pornography has been totally revolutionized. The animation in the porn industry is one of the most successful implementations of animation in movies. In fact, it is through the anime section of the porn that has motivated and inspired most animation producers to produce some of the world class animation series. Pornography has also led to the innovation of different kind of sex toys. Some of them are computer controlled commonly referred to as teledildonics (Benes). Some adult film executives are burying themselves in work to introduce a new sense of their content. The officials are experimenting with haptic technologies to add the sense of touch. The RealTouch will revolutionize the whole watching of both adult content movies and other kinds of films (Benes).
Previously, pornography was mainly in literature form. Pornography has, however, revolutionized to be in written and audio-visual format. In the early 2000s, pornography was in tapes and compact disks (Lang 84). The trend has, however, changed since the open use of the internet. Pornography has successfully changed the internet by creating the online viewing and the download option of videos. It has introduced the concept of compression of files so that they can be easily uploaded to the respective websites and so that they can be easily downloaded. It has also changed the concept of cashless pay to be used in the payment for videos in the premium pornography sites. In the said industry, high definition videos have become the norm. They have adopted the creation of quality videos to satisfy their ever increasing clientele. It is also right to note that due to competition, pornography has changed the human trafficking by making use of willing actors and actresses who will produce some of the best scenes.
With the making of videos and easy and quick hosting of the same, pornography has managed to incorporate amateur video views which have enabled some unknown names to hit the limelight. It is also imperative to note that with the use of online payment, the pornographic industry has significantly reduced its expenditure and increased its revenue enabling it to employ more actors. With the opening up of the Internet for public use, pornography has adopted an open platform whereby they can pay taxes to the national government. The adult film industry has motivated the introduction of the escort industry which is also performing significantly well in its right. The pornography industry has also made use of webcams to produce movies which, being of low quality, they are easy to make (Rudo 1). The industry has also made use and fully adapted the booming Smartphone industry by making videos which can be easily played on such devices.
In a nutshell, every cloud has a silver lining. Gone are the days where everything and anything associated with pornography was termed as taboo and uncouth. It is time to adapt what is right and use it to spearhead other industries.
