Both Ivan and Michelle have a clear understanding on how to bring their children up. They keep themselves abreast with the events that are taking place in their lives. It can be stated that they have a permissive parenting style (Knox and Schacht, 2013). The parents allow children to make independent decisions, however, they guide them along the way.
Conflict Resolution
Conflicts are common in the family and as expected they are heated and can be characterized by yelling and scolding. The family acknowledges that individuals need space when they are angry (Petronio and Caughlin, 2006). Therefore, the family members give each other time to calm down. After this, they hold a mature and clear-headed discussion where they talk about the conflict and address all issues surrounding it. At the end of the day, they resolve the conflict and the family members are pleased.
Balancing Work and Family
For the period that Ivan and Michelle have been married, Ivan has been the breadwinner and this leaves Michelle to concentrate on her children’s and household’s needs. This facilitates the balance between family and work (Strong and Cohen, 2013).
Family Roles
Communication and Couple Satisfaction
The communication style in the family is clear and direct and it has proven to be effective in maintaining their strength as a family (Strong and Cohen, 2013). Decisions are made mutually by Ivan and Michelle after communication between the family members and this goes ahead to prove the effectiveness of couple satisfaction and communication.
Classical Perspective on Marital Power
The classical perspective on marital power is based on various conventional ideas about marriage (Lamanna and Reidmann, 2012). For instance, it is believed that communication is the main source of strength in a marriage both between the couple as well as their children. Additionally, Ivan is the breadwinner while Michelle is the homemaker.
