Assuredly, my participation in an online class was very good and commendable, by staying motivated throughout the course; I can undoubtedly posit that my commitment and dedication in my online class was very encouraging. On a scale of 1 to 11, I can confidently rate myself at 10. This can typically be attributed to a number of factors. To start with, I always stayed motivated throughout the course in all classes. A lot of dedication was required of me and, this enabled me to attend classes having completed all my assignments and read for the next topic prior to class. As a committed student, I ensured that I got all materials I required in at my disposal.
Following this further, I can certainly assert that instead of asking thoughtful questions in class, I normally chose to use communication tools such as live chats and e-mail connectivity which pretty much assisted me in my studies. Subsequently, I used fast internet connectivity in our school to research widely. Similarly, I had a good connection with my fellow students in class who were also very focused on achieving greatness. We had the opportunity to share ideas, practices and useful techniques that helped us develop our online study skills through open-ended questions. I can remember this incidence when one of my friends mentioned that making a friend “connected with online” helped. I second this affirmation because being part of a larger community of learners was very helpful especially in courses that were taught in-person as well as online classes. Generally, this great experience with connected friends enriched our relationship and interaction. I therefore learned a lot from them and also from their experiences like I did from the instructions. Using the online threaded discussions in our course management system was a good stepping stone as we had the opportunity of extending classroom discussions beyond the usual physical class time. I also critically got to know other students by recognizing their unique ideas and expression of thoughts rather than by their physical attributes. To add on to that, I developed consequential connections with my online classmates and this has translated into my current involvement in career networking opportunities.
Our instructors in class employed a variety of techniques that were aimed at engaging us. We discussed some of the most successful techniques by answering questions asked by the instructors. On my part, I was a very dedicated student who answered all the questions presented to me by the instructor. For instance, there were incidences when the instructor could post questions for discussion and then ask us similar questions individually based on our answers. This was a very effective technique that worked well with most of us. Aside that, the instructor was now able to craft questions which matched our individual understanding of the provided online or material resource. Although I never asked to clarify questions, I always ensured that I critically answered all questions presented to me by the instructor, this way; I created a good relationship with our instructors.
Developing a personal time-table management strategy was also very helpful. As one of the biggest challenge facing online students, self-discipline demanded a lot from me: dedication and commitment. Consequently, establishing my own schedule for class time helped me ensure ample time for class participation. Additionally, staying and setting to specific study days was a major factor that worked out for me. For instance, I read my lessons in the evenings while on Saturdays, I did my assignment and also responded to online postings and building particularly on what I had already submitted. As an active member in class, I played my role as expected and did my very best to accomplish my set goals. However it does not go without affirming that from my sufficient class participation if I missed a single lesson, every student in our class could notice my absence. I would therefore affirm with no doubts that my participation in online classes was very impressive and commendable.
