The concept given is about Asian Americans. The author seems comfortable with the topic as seen by the way he had presented the extended definition. The topic is well-discussed. The term can be found in several other online websites, educational or otherwise, such as the UCLA website. The extended definition in this document is different from those websites in that it tackles not only the definition of Asian Americans but also the socio-cultural aspects of Asian Americans and their history.

It is a bit confusing to pinpoint who the audience is. The audience seems to be generalized as any people who pre-conceived notions and stereotypes towards Asian Americans. As thus, their knowledge is only based on what the media depicts so they really need this extended definition to clarify some things. Once these people acquire the right knowledge, they will not easily have prejudices and stereotypes against and towards Asian Americans. Perhaps it will be better if the author narrows down the audience to only students who are not that well-knowledgeable on Asian Americans. Of course, if the author chooses to do this, the specified audience must be mentioned in the definition.

I presume, with the way the document is written, that the author is an Asian American himself or has close friends that are Asian American. That kind of author is real and also specific. The intention to educate people on being an Asian American is clearly stated.

The format for the extended definition is a pamphlet. It is appropriate because the design of the format has a balance of colorful, eye-catching images, trendy but not overly dramatic font style and just enough text to inform and yet not to bore the readers. However, I am concerned that the format seemed to be polished so that it will fit in the paper that you will print it on. For example, if you open the document in Word 2007, some texts are cut and important information cannot be seen.

The specific audience may perhaps need to be educated first on stereotyping, generalization and assumptions as well as these concepts’ effect on how a person thinks and behaves towards other people.

It might be beneficial for the technique of Cause and Effect to be used in the document. For example, the author mentioned stereotype and the role of media. However, he did not clearly state the effect these factors have on the Asian Americans as well as to other people.
