Many people suffering from this disability do have unusual styles of studying, listening to people and a different interpretation when communicating (CDC 3). Scientist studies show that it is a disease that is common in boys than in girls and can be examined in an ethnic or racial group. It is characterized by behaviors such as hand flapping, résistance to environmental change and aggression (ASF 4).
Autistic people have been shown to succeed in life with plenty of significant people being named to help give guidance to the young ones that are autistic. The main reasons as to why they are able to succeed is their ability to have intense focus on things they do. They are honest, perfectionists who pay attention to all the details (Rain para 5). Everyone in the country should be treated equally when it comes to job seeking and managers need to understand that autistic is a disability not human and needs to be given same rights and entitlement at the workplace. Yes,austic people should get employment opportunities. Some of the individuals who have succeeded in lofe despite their disability are one, Matt Cottle who is now an entrepreneur and the owner of a bakery called Stuttering King Bakery where he makes different types of foods for cafes and those people in need of catering services (Autism Speaks 3). A second successful person is Christian Anderson, who acts as a role model for the young adults. Currently, he is working in one of the Danish International Pharmaceuticals Company as an IT expert, and his efforts are highly appreciated by the managers (4).
Through employment, these people are in a better position not relying on the government for funds to help them control the disease and purchase some of the medicine for treatment. At the workplace, employers value their trustworthiness low absenteeism and high reliability on the duty task performed (Stephen 2).
The trailer of the movie ‘Temple Grandin’ introduces the ups and downs of Temple Grandin, who is a woman diagnosed with autism. Though she could not speak until her fourth year, and even experienced difficulty until high school, particularly in in social scenes, she overcame the limitations imposed on her to become a successful expert in the field of animal husbandry. The film adapted the real life experience of American animal husbandry expert Temple Grandin, who is autistic.Perhaps even the autism helped her become an expert. As an able-bodied person, it is difficult for me to make outstanding achievements in a field. Besides, I think it is harder forphysically challenged people to succeed by overcoming more difficulties.
When she measured something, there are others laughing at her. If I was held up to mockery, maybe I will doubt myself and let me be normal. However, she haas a face of does not matter. At first, Temple Grandin liked staying with ‘hug box’ in ranch; then she tried to create a ‘hug box’ to let herself be quiet. She is so unusual, so she was opposed and not understood at the beginning. However, she never gave up creating her ‘hug box’ to relax. Because of her weirdness and insistence, she is noted for creating her ‘hug box,' which is a stress-relieving device. There is a voice, “We know how different she is!”. Temple Grandin has an exceptional mind. There are lots of scenes of doors, which means that she has a whole new world. After climbing a ladder, she saw a ranch with lots of cows. Surprisingly, Temple Grandin confidently said that she can understand cattle and easily know about the edge of flight zone and handler position to stop or start a movement. In addition, we can not see the curves that cattle moved, but she can. A woman chirped that her husband read about Temple Grandin, which implies that Temple Grandin did attractive research and wrote innovative masters. In addition, she designed a large abattoir to improve the efficiency and came up with better animal treatment techniques for the livestock in processing plants. She further received an award from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals which is the largest animal rights organization in the world. Captions are coming to explain that her gift to the world was different. She who is autistic not only is employed but also is successful. Because of her mental illness, she is different from ordinary people and is great. No matter what situations she endured, she never was desperate. In childhood, her motherremained quite compassionate. This was a feeling expressed by her teachers as well. so she does not care about the ridiculous of other people.Perseverance led her to final victory. She has since proceeded to become a famous Colorado State University professor.
In a word, Temple Grandin who has a mental illness but succeeded is an example. Why does she overcome with mental illness? How much does the autistic illness affect her to become an animal husbandry expert? How would other disabled people to be successfully employed?
individualsThe body-disabled people or people with mental illness are not same with normalpeople when they want to look for jobs. Dawn said that every individual with autism spectrum disorder(ASD) has the ability and desire to work, but there are still some obstructtions, for example, reciprocal social interactions and interpersonal communication.(125) “Behavioral difficulties which may include tantrums, aggression, self-injury, property destruction, ritualistic behaviors, or pica can create an employment barrier, so underemployment is common.”(Dawn, 127) However, if they want, I believe that they can succeed. In fact, the mental problem is common among people in the modern society, so it is not terrible. Though autistic people or other unhealthy people will have plenty of difficulties needed overcame, some difficulties are helpful. Difficulties would let people be stronger and more eager to succeed.
There are lots of examples that disabled people succeeded, such as, philosopher Tolstoy Nietzsche, artist Van Gogh, and Politician Lincoln. Mathematician John Forbes Nash is another example. Because he has schizophrenia, he often feels anxious. In addition, he is sensitive and suspicious. However, he, who studied about game theory and differential geometry, recovered from his experiences of paranoid delusional beliefs and succeeded in being a mathematician.(Hankir, 14) I believe that his research results are successful and accurate because of his sensitive and suspicious. He can always believe himself. When he met difficulties or confusion, he never really wanted to give up. As a result, schizophrenia did not break him, which gave him a reticent environment to research. He who won the Nobel Prize for economics not only was not unemployed but also was a famous star. In short, Nash, who was a mathematical professor of Princeton University also, was very successful, although he had the mental illness.
In a word, though some people have a mentalillness, they still have opportunities to succeed by overcoming lots of difficulties and never giving up. Sometimes, difficulties or illness are helpful for people to succeed. By struggling, they can normally be employed or become an expert in a special area.
In O’Dell’s article (1) he mentioned some of the famous achievers with disabilities. Michael J. Fox is one man with Parkinson’s disability and despite his diagnosis, he did not reveal his condition until seven years later. He is known for his celebrity action and so many people loved his shows. Because of his mental illness he left the industry due to extreme complications later starting to advocate on research on the stem cell for curing Parkinson’s disease (3). Moreover, Claude Monet’s a French man who grew older in early 1990’s had a mental illness and this never stopped him from achieving his dream. He was loved by people from his community as he had good paintings and his technique on painting. As he grew older, he went blind due to cataracts. Despite losing his eyesight he still carried on with his paintings of items such as water lilies his work is still inspirational and admired by many people in his country (4). Stephen Hawking a British physicist is another illustration, who was partially paralyzed by amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. With his condition, he is an academic giant famously known for development of theories relating to black holes and his best-selling book ‘A Brief History of Time’ (5). Further his theories have shown that his studies were famous in the scientific community such as those of Galileo Newton and Einstein. At first very few people, could understand and take into consideration his explanations but later they came to realize that majority of televisions appreciated his effort in animated descriptions such as ‘The Simpsons’, ‘Futurama’ and ‘Family Guy’.
Marleen Matlin was an American also had a deaf illness (6). This never stopped her from achieving her dreams and she won the Best Actress Academy Award in 1988 for her outstanding performance in ‘Children of a Lesse God’. Realizing her interest and capabilities, she began fighting for the rights of the deaf and acting as a role model to young adults by encouraging them. Hellen Keller was both blind and deaf surprisingly she was the first female with such an illness to graduate from college in America. During her life in college she did not stop participating in co-curriculum activities and did a play known as ‘The Miracle Worker’. After her post graduate completion, she became a perfect speaker and author advocating for women’s rights to practice birth control methods and freedom to vote (7). Christopher Reeve back in 1995 had a severe accident that made him lose his spinal code that left him paralyzed only to end up using wheelchairs. He got more motivated because of his well-known movie version of superman. More this never stopped him but he began a research with hopes to find a stem cell to cure spinal injuries. With the program inventions he developed such as the make a Wish Foundation and the Special Olympics he was still optimistic to be among the best in forming a Paralysis Resource Center to help those with the same disability as his. Proving to the world that every task in life is achievable if one believes in himself (8).
Ludwig Van Bestowed, a German composer and a piano expert despite suffering from tinnitus at the age of 20 that made him have hearing problem. His families support encouraged him and by using the hearing tubes he could feel the sound vibrations of his piano in a Heroic, romantic and classical manner (9). With his performance, he became one of the most well-known composers of tunes and music in history taking into consideration being unable to hear. Albert Einstein had Asperger’s Syndrome that made him not to speak until he was nine years. He had difficult time in doing his studies making him to fail in college but this never stopped him from pursuing his further career. He was very talented in the field of science and physics making him to win a Nobel Prize in science evolution and theories. His strengths were well realized in mass-light conversation then theory of relative comparison to create modern theories used today by researchers and scientists. Finally, his greatest accomplishment was developing and writing stories about how the earth evolution took place and its existence up toy today it is used as a relevant information in academic studies.
In conclusion, the society as a whole should understand that disability is not inability and that people suffering from autism disorder should be given special attention and provided with the correct environment. By offering this to them, the patients are in a position to realize their potential strength and explore their growth opportunities regarding innovative skills and interests in a certain field of study. For example, self-ownership of a business sector. Adults with the disability if employed will make them match their interests with the environment they are living in. Through proper support from their colleagues, these people can explore their talents fully and give a productive result on the ongoing employment.
Finally, Franklin D Roosevelt was the only American president who had paralysis on his waist downward by a form of polio syndrome in 1921. He was revealed as one of the greatest leaders in history during the World War 2 who led the Americans to win the battle using his confidence and grace. His disability never stopped him and through uniting with the citizens they managed to win the case. Currently he is also used on American coin-the dime.
