Question 1. Identify one important concept or idea that you learned while viewing the short clip.
The Ted talk by Drew Dudley clarifies that leadership is not a learned behaviour; rather leadership can be witnessed in everyday life in the smallest instances. Dudley talks about his personal experience of influencing a young girl without even knowing that his actions would have a lasting impact on her life. The clip identifies that leadership much more than what people learn through books, and the concept and its practice needs to be celebrated as it helps in improving other people’s lives (Dudley, 2010).
Question 2. Why do you believe that the concept or idea that you identified is important?
The idea of leadership being witnessed in the smallest instances of everyday life is important as it identifies that leadership is within everyone’s limits. The clip identifies that leadership does not mean that you need to influence or lead a large group of people, rather having influence on a single individual is an example of leadership. Dudley clearly outlines that leadership should not be made into an impossible dream; rather it should be cherished as everyone can lead.
Question 3. Apply what you have learned in this video to some aspect of your life.
After watching the video I started to ponder on the number of people in my life that have influenced me and how I have influenced others through my actions. The clip made me realize that many people from my father to my teachers are leaders as they have inspired me to attain the best education and strive for a better life. Overall, I understood that leaders have always been around me and I need to celebrate the role they have played in my life and make them proud (Clemmer, 2007).
Question 4. What questions has this video raised for you? What are you still wondering about? How would you go about answering your own question?
The video has made me question whether I should thank the people that have influenced me. I am wondering will me thanking my father or some of my teachers boost their confidence and make them think they are good leaders (Sinek, 2009). I think it is about time I show gratitude to the people who have shown leadership qualities around me and influenced me through their actions and behaviours.
