My answers were based on facts. My preparation was quite easy because I only had to know the facts about the questions that I anticipated from the interviewer. As I was preparing, I remember a piece of advice that I was once given by someone who had participated in several interview sessions both as an interviewee and interviewer. He told me that interviews were always easy to go through as an interviewee if you are telling the truth. The truth does not have to be memorized. It is just remembered. My goal as I prepared for the interview was to be able to express myself effectively, coherently and with confidence.
After watching the video of my interviews, I think I did well with my non-verbal communication except making eye contact. My sitting posture was formal, confident, and effective. My body movements were okay and helped me pass the message or the information I intended to pass to the interviewer. I will certainly be working to improve my eye contact with the interviewers. My inability to make eye contacts with the people I am communicating with have always portrayed me as a nervous person and a less confident person.
Verbally, I would rate my communication as being above average. I answered questions clearly and with a confident voice. I was coherent, but with more filler words than I would have preferred. It took me a few seconds to get the right vocabulary to express myself. I was surprised by how the interview progressed because, although I have mostly had good verbal communication skills, I expected to be more nervous. I will, however, be looking to improve my vocabulary in different circumstances. It will enable me to use appropriate vocabulary in appropriate circumstances and significantly reduce use of filler words.
I was able to remember most of the contents I prepared for the interview. Luckily for me, some of the content that I could not remember was not required during the interview session. Some of my answers were short mostly due to lack of content, but where I had content, my responses were comprehensive. I would need to prepare more for content if I was to do this interview again.
I do not have much criticism about the manner in which the assignment was administered. I believe it was conducted in a manner that resembles the official professional interviews and I was able to learn from the experience. I would only suggest that the exercise be regularly conducted to help students gain more experience.
