Multinationals and Government
Having watched “No Logo”, I came to a conclusion that Multinational corporations are more powerful than the government. On the other hand, I completely disagree with the idea of the economists that governments are more powerful just because they regulate businesses at will. In essence, regulations are not done at will but rather within the confines of law. In other words, the government also has limits on the kind and extent of limits they would put. In addition to this, the mere fact that they regulate businesses does not mean that they have more control the consumers. Actually, government only scrutinizes that the multinationals are legitimate and that their operations do not envisage irregularities.
Now, having watched the video, I came to the realization that money is what runs the world. It is the primary basis upon which the society is controlled. In this regard multinationals use a lot of money in advertisement and corporate social responsibility to kill competition. As such, they achieve near monopoly although the government does not allow that. In other words, the corporations can use their financial capability to achieve their interests without breaking the laws besides the fact that they can blackmail governments by threatening to relocate overseas.

I agree with the student’s idea that government and businesses are powerful in different areas. However, I do not agree with the implication the student makes to the effect that the two entities are equal. Essentially, the government does not run the economy. It just controls and regulates economic components. Importantly, in the contemporary society, politicians who form the biggest part of government are puppets of businessmen because campaigns are about financiers.
