Political corruption and other illicit activities have a strong negative impact on the development of countries and their economies. In the majority of cases, corrupted politicians become the main cause of social dissatisfaction and political disorder in the country. The degree to which the country is corrupted also influence how this country is seen in the international arena. Those governments whose members are involved in scandals about bribes and corruption cannot be considered as trustworthy and reliable.
Unfortunately, corruption is a well-known negative phenomenon that is widespread in Africa as well as in Europe. The least developed countries are seen to have higher rates of corruption, however, its impact is noticed even in the U.S. and EU. After more than 20 years of independence, the group of post-Soviet countries still has huge problems with political corruption and other illicit activities. Such attitude of high representatives of the states gives permission to other officials to have such practice as well.
The greatest corruption scandals of the last year happened to be in Nigeria, Malaysia, Honduras and Guatemala (O’Grady, 2015). However, this is only a mere record of illicit activities that are currently happening around the globe. Huge numbers of laws and regulations that have recently come into force across the globe demonstrate that this problem is far from being solved. Despite proclamations of ideas of honesty, lots of politicians have their hands on bribes and money laundering. Till this time, the most effective way of dealing with corruption was shown by Singapore, whose corrupted leaders were severely punished. This has led the country to its economic miracle, so that it shows a perfect example to others from the world community.
