In the story of an hour, Richards is seen as a discreet person. He was the first person to receive the news of the death of Mr. Mallard, but he treats the information with a lot of professionalism and does not divulge the information to the public. He avoided several communications to the public due the condition of the Mrs. Mallard whom he thought could suffer the heart attack. Instead, he finds the most convenient way to pass the message through Josephine. He moves with speed to stop any unconfirmed message which could rich home and cause confusion. He waited for a second call so to confirm the death of his friend. Josephine and Richards are both concerned and disturbed in their heart how the news of Mrs. Mallard’s husband will implicate her life because she suffers from a heart attack. They then take a lot caution and allows Josephine to inform her.
Love
Upon hearing the death of her husband, she wept openly to show her love to her dear love mate. The symbol shows love between the two people. Had she not loved him, she would have received the news with no sign of grief. The point that depicts a sign of relief shows that there was love between Richard and Mallard.
Metaperception
Metaperception is the way a person thinks to be perceived by others. Mrs. Mallard was a metaperceptionist who viewed herself as being seen a person with no idea in their house. She views herself as someone who cannot have an important decision to the family. The aspect of viewing herself as nobody shows her act of selflessness. She always respected the decisions that are made by others even far from the family.
Solitude
Sympathetic
Josephine is seen to be caring and sympathetic about the sister. She goes to the room where the sister locked herself and tried to enter to console the widow. She is seen to care a lot about the sister when she takes persistence to remind Louise Mallard that she will become ill and should stop drinking elixir of life; a substance that brings immortality when drunk. Ironically, in the room, Mrs. Mallard was in the imagination of a happy future, and she compares this with the outside environment where she took a long time staring at nature. Mallard’s sympathy is useful in the environment that she stays as she helps the other members of the family.
