The person on death who forms the basis of this research is Anthony Shore. He was a serial killer who was born in 1962 to parents who both worked in the Air Force of the United States. His birth took place in South Dakota where his father had been stationed. Because of the nature of work of the air force, they moved a total 9 times before he finally joined high school. Shore had two beautiful sisters. Worth noting is that he also had a talent in music which he didn't go after. However, he later followed the line of telephony consequently becoming a telephone lineman. Shore was married twice but on all the occasions, he divorced with his wives.
Shore was accused of the responsibility of killing four ladies with his operations running from 1987 and ending in 2000. He was otherwise referred to as the ‘Tourniquet Killer’ because of his use of the ligature together with a bamboo stick or even a toothbrush for purposes of tightening or loosening the ligature thereby controlling them. Notably, the instrument that he used was the same as the twitch which is majorly used in managing horses, particularly by farmers. The killings by Shore were all in cold blood and, as a result, the mention of his name in the American society brought down strong chills. (Blanco)
It is because of these occurrences that the state of Texas which otherwise has been regarded as conducting the highest number of executions decided that Anthony Shore, an admitted serial killer, would be executed. In fact, he strangled, as well as, assaulted all of his victims. Because of this, the jury came up with the resolution that Shore would not be tried for the other three murders that he had been convicted of because he had already been awarded a capital punishment regarding the death of one of his victims.
Who were the Victims?
Shore had five victims to his name. Included;
Maria Del Carmen Del Estrada
She was an illegal migrant from Mexico, who had opted to come to America for purposes of getting that good life she so desired. Worth noting is that she was a small, as well as, a petite lady who stood at the height of five foot and one inch. She was 21 years old when the murder occurred in 1992. Her half-naked body that depicted enormous sexual assault was found at a Dairy Queen's back. ("Death Row Information")
Diana Rebollar
She was a nine-year-old girl who was living in Houston specifically around the Heights region. On one particular day in 1994, she went to a store in a neighborhood to make a purchase of sugar. Those who operated the store saw her leaving safely but unfortunately she did not return to her place of residence. Her murder case was connected to the former because of the use of a similar method of operation. The weapon that was used in her murder was the tourniquet.
Dana Sanchez
This lady was offered some lift by Anthony Shore as she was going to the house of her boyfriend. Shore tried making advances, but when she turned down on the account that she had her fiancé, she was never seen again. After a period of 7days, shore anonymously called the law enforcers consequently leading them to Sanchez’s body that was at that time badly decomposing.
Selma Jansk
The incidence took place in 1993 when Shore forcefully entered the home of this fourteen-year-old and sexually assaulted her. He did not, however, kill her but fled away from the scene.
Laurie Lee Tremblay
She had been the first victim of Shore. He tried sexually assaulting her consequently strangling her.
Opinion on capital punishment
No matter the intensity of offence, on a personal level, I hold that nobody deserves to be killed or die in any manner. For such, I strongly offer my opposition to the capital punishment. This is because better methods of bringing justice could be established. Besides, the death penalty poses very high costs to the state in comparison to the life in the prisons. This is in terms of the litigation costs which is otherwise very complicated. The death penalties have also not essentially prevented the occurrences of more criminal activities in the United States. In fact, the rate of homicides is very high in the regions that primarily practice this capital punishment. Besides, the capital punishment in the American state has not been a reserve for those having done the worst criminal activities. However, it has been a reserve of those who have the worst attorneys. This is so because a question pops up that when is the last time any rich individual in the United States was on a death row. Therefore, the information that has been gathered does not in any manner alter my opinion on the death penalty. Its practice should, in fact, be illegalized by the constitution which essentially promotes life.
