John Grisham, the writer of the novel Rainmaker, together with Bob Yeoman and Francis Ford Coppola that is produced as a movie Starred by Matt Damon and directed by Francis Ford Coppola. It outlines the corrupt, selfish, and greedy American society (Movie Reviews for Christians, 2012) legally, the word “rainmaker” in law means someone who brings in big clients to a law firm. Rudy, who is the star of the film, is a humble broke lawyer whose ambition is to make things right in the society where the poor are powerless. When he exposes the Great Benefits Insurance Company, he proves to the society that he can be among the few men left in a society that is rotten (The Rainmaker, 2012). His quest does not come with challenges, but he has the truth by his side.
Legal issues
Ambulance chasing- the legal system of the United States allows lawyers to take a certain entitlement of the amount a client wins from the court. It can count up to millions of dollars or nothing, this system allows individuals with little or no money to take out court cases, and many lawyers in the United States find their clients through ambulance chasing (Movie Review, 2016). In the film, Deck Shifflet, who visits fatalities of accidents in the hospital, portrays the example of this and he offers himself to represent them.
Domestic violence- Domestic violence is a very common rifle in the society that media seldom talks about it. Several women, children, and men fall, victims of domestic violence when one of the partners is not stable psychologically because of drugs or mental instability (Followill, 2016).In the film exposes this form of violence through Rudy’s dad, who is an alcoholic and he abuses him and his mother. In the United States, domestic violence is illegal, and it is punishable by penalties, court-issued protective orders and withdrawal of child custody.
The general rule of law on ambulance chasing is not fair enough especially to the victims because it more of taking advantage of someone’s unstable mind. The victims of accidents are always in a desperate situation, and they fall for any opportunity that sees to it that justice is served even if it means making irrational choices and decisions. The general rule of domestic violence is fair because it gives a chance the abuser to find out the importance of family and it also helps them correct their mistakes in a much more difficult way.
