Perfect Model Movie Review On Troy

Movie Troy is one of the most successful blockbusters directed by Wolfgang Petersen starring Brad Pitt with a box office of over half a billion, and is now regarded as one of the most sophisticated historical dramas in history. But if we start talking about the history, it is worth mentioning a number of major discrepancies between the movie and the reality.
The main primary source of the movie script is the Iliad written by the ancient Greek poet Homer which is partly fictional and embellished. But the movie Troy somehow diverges with the epos Iliad. First of all, the siege of the city, according to Homer, lasted for ten years, but in the film all the action lasted in a matter of weeks. The armies that fought were at times less. Next, Greek leader Agamemnon, king of Mycenaean, did not die in Troy, as it is shown in the film. In the Iliad, he was murdered by his wife Clytemnestra at Argos a long time after the capture of the city. His younger brother Menelaus was not killed in the battle too – instead, he lived a long life in Lacedaemon with Helen of Troy. Another huge mistake is that the film tells about the events that took place over 1200 years BC, but the Greeks` ships in the film – trireme – they appeared six centuries later, around 600 BC. What is more, Patroclus is shown in the movie as Achilles` cousin, though in fact he was his best friend. And another serious mistake was to show Achilles penetrate Troy in the wooden horse. This is so because, according to Homer, he was killed long before the capture of Troy – during the siege of the city.
Achilles by Brad Pitt is all praise. The only drawback, in my opinion, is that the great Achilles should have been stronger, given that he was the best fighter among mortals, therefore, was constantly waving his heavy weapons. But, apparently, to combine the two components – performance and figure – is very difficult. Nevertheless, Brad Pitt played Achilles great and excited much. Pitt`s performance can be considered one of the best among his all dramatic roles.
I was not able to notice any character that did not exist in the original Homer`s epos. All characters were on their places and existed in reality. On the contrary, the movie contained in addition to amazing action scenes also passionate love scenes at which actors were showing their true feelings. Another scene that struck me to the heart was parting of Hector with Andromache. This was the best moment of the whole movie – touching, pure and sincere. That moment I realized how brilliantly the character of Hector was performed by Eric Bana.
The film is striking in its scale. Magnificent battles, sincerity of feelings of the characters, impressive burning of Troy, Trojan horse, and Achilles' heel – all these created an incredible and unforgettable atmosphere. Shrill laments of women perfectly selected music – everything in the movie is striking in its power. I marvel at the amount of efforts needed to create such a spectacle. Having watched the movie, a person simply cannot but google some more information about history of Trojan War.
With regard to the entertainment, the film is full of it from the very beginning till the very end. Despite numerous historical discrepancies, it fascinates with massive battle scenes completed with no traceable computer graphics and is definitely worth watching.
