The Music industry is ever full of juicy dramas. Friends and partners alike are turning foes day after day in what is majorly caused by a strong feeling of betrayal. It is normal to hear of conflicts between two or more rappers in the music industry as each musician is always looking for a top selling point to gain niche popularity. However, it always turns so unprofessional when two collaborating rappers are engrossed in a conflict of a song they were to release together. Gucci mane and Young Jeezey once found themselves in this kind of conflit in 2005 when they were working on a yet to be released song titled “Let’s get it” themed “thug motivation 101.”
Any rap lover would be waiting for the best rap “collabo” of the year seeing two rising starts join hands to give their fans one of their best. On the contrary, things did not work out as planned. Gucci had been dominated by self-love and decided to betray his friend by using the track in his project without the consent of his friend Jeezy. This was painful bite at the back to Young Jeezy as he could not watch losing any financial gain out of their song. A conflict was at its peak and fans were closely monitoring the situation, contemplating who would come out strong and exhibit professional conduct over the feud.
Initially, as expected, Jeezy expressed his anger by offering to deal with Gucci by cremating him. Things got worse when Jeezy lost his close associate Pookie Loc who was believed to have been murdered by Gucci who letter escaped the murder charges by defending himself as having acted out of self-defense. This was a complete double loss to Jeezy and things seem to be going out of hands and reconciliation is farfetched from how things are going. The battle is left rolling and the wise man will win it on the face of their fans who are always the final judge in such familiar incidences.
Contrary to fans expectations, the two rappers seemed to have settled their differences and decided to work on couple of songs together before another disagreement ensued late in 2010 over Walter’s clothing in Atlanta. Things were becoming too bold for fans to see that the two wrappers cannot work together peacefully. The Young Jeezy took the first shot to downplay the incidence terming it a slight misunderstanding. His fans and many others appreciated his bold move and it was seen as the right step towards a conciliation path. However, he later went ahead to refer to his colleague as retarded- perhaps a drawback to reconciliation envisaged by fans. On the other hand, Gucci went ahead to raft a song titled “worst Enemy” something which pictured him as trouble maker among rap lovers.
In any conflict, there is always a winner and a loser no matter how bad it may have ended. Jeezy seemed to have carried the day through his numerous acts of always stretching his hand to reach his friend to save the image of the music industry filled with sarcasm and betrayal. According to Sweers (2015), it is very important to always take control of public discussion doing around that may lead to character assassination. Jeezy seemed to be on the right track always on top of public discussion either downplaying the incidence or calmly laughing it off. In this case, the fans were sympathetic to his current misunderstanding with Gucci and was viewed by many as an artist who champions for peace and unity, something which Figiel et al. (2005) agree as the only winning point in any conflicting situation involving celebrities.
