The goal of the appraisal meeting was to communicate with Jim that the company is satisfied with the performance, even though they are not delighted with him reporting late to work. The conversation with Jim was started by appreciating Jim and his efforts for the past year. Jim was informed that the company is very impressed with his performance, but they have observed that he had been reported late for work in the last few months. The meeting provided Jim an opportunity to give reasons for his delayed reporting time and understand if there are some ways to overcome the current performance concerns. Jim’s concerns and excuses were listened carefully and he was explained that there was room for excuses at work. Jim was told that the company understands that there can be reasons for being late to work one or twice, but his behaviour has continued for past three months.
Jim was informed that the company expects better from him as he has previously shown that he is capable of better performance. Jim was explained that his recent performance has caused a decline in the production line. Jim explained the problems faced by the company when the production line is delayed and how the delay impacts his job too. Jim was also given the record of his performance in the first nine months where his performance was up to the expected standards and the company faced no problem in terms of the production line. Therefore, Jim was explained that the company expects him to perform to the same standards that he displayed in the first nine months. Jim was explained that he is an important member of the organization and there is a lot expected from him. He was told that his role is crucial to developing an effective production system and the management has high hopes for his future. The meeting was adjourned by promising Jim that his future and career growth are guaranteed, if he manages to replicate his performance in the first nine months of the appraisal year.
