My analysis of my writing performance in this course will begin from every assignment I submitted in the past. It is ubiquitous that every student needed to get a grip and analyze their own writing skills in order to produce contents that have clear arguments, grammatically correct sentence construction, as well as appropriate conclusions. My weaknesses in writing are as follows: I reviewed my assignments in the past and found out that most of the thesis statements that I made might interesting for some; however, it was written in a poor choice of words which discourages readers to read it since the argument itself was not catchy enough to hook them to read the whole paper. To start the writing process, I usually had a hard time researching for suitable references that I can use; but the majority of the sources that I wanted to use for my paper was either not available in PDF, HTML, or E-book format and the lack of the availability of that book provides me a reason to further use secondary sources from the materials I have read. Third weakness in writing was the grammar and punctuations; I understand perfectly that sentences presents the author’s argument if they were written in a concise yet appealing manner. Furthermore, punctuations such as the constant use of Oxford comma enable readers to discern the correct meaning of the writer’s implied meanings. Sometimes because of typing too fast I was not attentive enough to proofread my own paper to spot these mistakes. I tend to repeat myself over and over again; for instance, I have stated an argument then in the middle of the paper, I repeat the same sentence, although not the same format and structure but the meaning was still the same. My strengths in writing was the fact that I use sources from reputable academic websites such as JSTOR and ProQuest; in writing assignments, it is my credo to present plagiarism-free papers and cite all the reference I used in the whole article so that when another reader considers reading my article in the future and found an interesting information from my writing, the paper will be able to provide them easy access to the sources I have used to complete the paper. Next will be my pursuit towards accuracy and as a business writer analyzing mathematical data requires not only the understanding of the subject itself but also the fact that the writer must be able to discern which information is good and which one is the bad. My experiences from this course have taught me a lot on which websites provides good information that are both accepted by the academic and business communities. My third strength in writing is my ability to present all facts and evidences into separate sub-topics. These sub-topics in turn are in line with my thesis statement. Fourth strength is my passion for reading; no one will ever become a good writer if they are not a reader. For me, reading is important because it replenishes my knowledge bank with something new and useful which I can add and present in the discussion section of my paper. Furthermore, the most important aspects of writing that I would like to improve is how to formulate a good and interesting thesis statements as well as the tips on how to gather information from various sources effectively. I also wanted to improve my writing skills to avoid redundancy. As a business writer, it is important for me to immerse to other styles of business content writing so that I can develop and improve my current writing style. This course helped me shape my future professional and academic skills because of its strict zero plagiarism tolerance. The instructor also encourages the rest of the students to develop new ideas and utilize all platforms of research such as the print, online, and visual media (e.g. TV’s) to present to the class as our assignment. The course also helped me overcome my issues in writing; at first, I always had the problem of finding a good source of information to use in my paper. Lastly, this course lets me explore my skills as a writer and the course taught me how to work as a professional content writer capable of producing timely articles relevant to the society’s current trends.
