Periodization is the programming of training in such a way that it can be done in intervals. Periodization allows a trainer an array of routines in regular intervals or periods in order to keep the body working harder each time one works out. Many are the times when the body starts resisting an exercise it is exposed to all the time and it is at this point when periodization is required.
There are several examples of periodization and how they are used in order to ensure that a trainer earns optimum results. Periodization can be utilized by improving the number of repetitions per a given set or sets of every session. Improving repetitions will ensure that the strength of program is increased and decreased at intervals and this will ensure that the trainer achieves good results. In such cases periodization is good when the body has become resistant to the exercise it is subjected.
Periodization can also be utilized when a person wants to strengthen their muscles. Periodization is able to move a trainer from low resistance to high resistance level through the strengthening the muscles. A trainer will have moved from low resistance with a lot of repetitions to high resistance with a lower number of repetitions. In such scenarios the muscles will have strengthened gradually for the purposes of general fitness.
Periodization can also be utilized when a trainer wants to increase the effectiveness of their workouts. In such cases a trainer capitalizes on the ability to avoid staleness that is achieved when using the same set of workouts over again. In such cases the body does not have a routine and will not expect anything which means that it will be surprised all the time.
Periodization has its fair share of pros and cons. In as much as it good and is helpful in achieving good results it should not always be used all the time. Trainers can use it when the training is done on their own volition. When a personal trainer is involved it is not advisable to use periodization because a client can get into the habit of giving an excuse after another whenever they want a break from their workouts.
