In life, each day brings us new situations, new conditions, opinions and an array of challenges. Sometimes we end up asking ourselves questions like, what will I do if? And at different stages in our lives, the answer will always be different. As for my life, I also have had my fair share of challenges; some of them had a mysterious way of effortlessly resolving themselves while others required a lot of my time, dedication and a lot of perseverance. In this paper, I will discuss one of my goals that I had set while in high school and the challenges that I went through to achieve it.
I had always desired to learn how to play a guitar. I really admired how some people would play various musical instruments effortlessly and with great expertise, making it appear very simple. I envied them. When I was in my 10th Grade, I embarked on my goal, to learn my most coveted musical instrument; the guitar. I enrolled to a nearby local church where guitar lessons were being offered. However, I did not expect that this task of learning how to play a guitar would come accompanied with as many challenges as it did. Many people whom we had started this endeavor together lost interest along the way and completely did away with the guitar lessons.
I must admit that it was a really hectic journey. My first challenge came when I was being taught on how to change between chords. I had learnt to hold onto some few chords but the trick about interchanging the chords proved to be a really hard task. Whenever I plucked the strings to play a song, the sound was more of noise than music to anyone’s ears. This almost discouraged me, I was longing to become a good guitarist as fast as possible but my tutor explained to me that it is through regular practice, discipline and endurance that would lead me to be the expert I have always desired to be. He added that, through determination I can achieve anything that my soul longs for. I became very motivated, and I started following the invaluable words that my tutor said to me.
As I look back at my experience as guitar learner, I can comfortably state that, patience and determination works magic in whatever goals one desires to achieve despite the hurdles involved. I have become a better person. I can now play a guitar with the skills almost equal to the people I used to admire watching them playing this wonderful instrument. I am happy that I took up the challenge with a positive attitude and can now impress my friends with my highly-pleasing ability to play the guitar.
