Debatably, personal responsibility is as one’s ability to wholly take care of oneself by means of treating oneself with respect, keeping healthy, keeping a sound mind and managing one's emotions. Personal responsibility is basically taking responsibility for one's actions and accepting the consequences that come along. It is the overall conscious that one has to willingly accept the importance of every individual and standards that are established in the society. It could also mean that individuals do not have to blame others or other factors outside themselves for failure to meet their expected goals and standards. In education, personal responsibility would mean that students fully accept all the responsibilities to learn as much as much as they can and study hard in courses that demand a lot of their attention and that press them against their capacity limits. Consequently it is very unfortunate for students who choose not to prepare for college because they have no other alternative but to prepare strenuous work after completing school. Therefore, personal responsibility is very important in defining one’s life since it directly affects an individual. Seemingly, it does not mean that personal responsibility controls everything that happens, it means that one can control their response to situations they are facing.
In college, personal responsibility can relate to one's success in various ways. For instance, students who take responsibility for their learning actually perform better than those who do not uphold personal responsibility. Literally, success can somewhat be based on what one chooses to do. For instance if a student chooses to go to class every day, complete all assigned tasks, read all assigned readings and truly participate in various activities, then success is guaranteed. In instances where a student fails and tries a number of times with the same results, it becomes their responsibility to seek assistance from a tutor, professor or from outside sources. No matter what the situation, going to college is a choice, therefore; choosing to put school first is accepting responsibility. There is a powerful effect on one’s life in putting personal responsibility into action. Personal responsibility is a way of life, a habit that affects the choices that an individual makes without deciding on when to do it or for what course but for their own good.
My preliminary plan to practice personal responsibility in education would be attributed to a number of factors and issues that seemingly affect education and how students personally view education. To start with, I will stay focused and motivated by having a positive attitude towards my education and the school that I attend. I will critically view things in broad terms and mainly focus on important matters on education as the rest follow. I will truly complete my assignments in good time; concentrate on my attendance and listen attentively to the tutor or instructor. This will enable me to keep track of the syllabus and prevent me from lagging behind in class. If I concentrate on my attendance, I will be in a good position of achieving my desired success without the fear of being dropped from scheduled classes. I will therefore find as many reasons as possible to stay motivated since college is my personal time investment. I will also accept words of encouragement from my professors and my classmates as well. Collectively, I will literally put all my strength, knowledge, skills and discipline together in order to succeed.
