Personal Responsibility and College Success
Personal responsibility refers to the act of being accountable to oneself and the needs and well- being of others. It is the obligation of each person who considers themselves to be of good conducts within the community. It requires courage and self-confidence that will contribute to pride and dignity among people. It drives people to do the right thing and at times it is important to consider the opinion of the people around you whether the need exists. In most instances, it requires that you monitor and judge your own actions, motivations and their results. Personal responsibility forms the basis of a healthy, productive and beneficial life. The fundamental responsibility that each person has is that we are completely responsible for how our lives turn out. If the results are appealing, then it is easy to say that we are responsible for our success. However, this does not come easy. There are important decisions to be made and many sacrifices that come with it. When taking personal responsibility we must consider the consequences of our friends and family (Mostovicz 2011). Going back to school is a choice I made for my family and me. I understand that it’s a change and with change comes new responsibilities. My personal responsibilities now include accepting and being responsible for my choices, while being a stay home dad, I will have to focus on my study.
Personal responsibility requires that people make important choices for them and their family. This opens grounds for them to strategize on the way they do their things in order to succeed. One area for improvement that can be identified in taking personal responsibility is, the motivation provided by friends and family as well as the effects that are brought about by taking personal responsibility. These are very critical aspects that impact the consequences of taking personal responsibility. In order to realize an effective strategic plan for this improvement, friends and family ought to consider motivating each other. People must accept their role in the society and do things the right way (Islam 2010). This will improve their social status and provide a positive environment. It will also ensure that people get to do the right things at the right time regardless whether it is a requirement or a necessity. This paper will discuss the issues that are related to taking personal responsibility after making an important decision in one’s life. It will bring out the issues that need to be clearly strategized in order to realize success and better lives for the family members and the community at large.
Furthermore, personal responsibility requires people to be accountable for their actions by considering their welfare and that of the people around them. Therefore, by making the decision to go back to school brings about more responsibility. Among them is the fact that I have to provide an influential and positive environment for my family and the people around my life. In order to do so, I will have to ensure that I do things in the right manner and at the right time. This will prevent collision of programs and on the other hand boost effectiveness. Another important aspect that must be withheld is honesty. As we all know honesty is said to be the best policy. It will require people face uncomfortable truths about themselves and be sensitive of other people\s feelings. The takes a lot of patience vigilance and hard work and as part of the virtues I intend to employ, it will need that I am watchful not to cross paths with other people and accept the bitter truth about myself and my friends and family. It is my personal responsibility to practice being honest about the simple things. This will enable me to get along with other people without any disputes.
Proper choices enable one to be on the right track and follow the right path to the destiny and goals. It is another part of my responsibility to ensure that I make the right or rather proper decisions in order to be on the right path. This means that I will be required to do things the right way and follow the paths that are better towards achieving my goals. This goes hand in hand with having people who support you during this period. A good support system will guide you and motivate you as you take on the challenges. My family provides a good support system in the decision I made and it is part of my personal responsibility to ensure that their support is properly paid off. This will occur if I deliver good results.
Following my decision to go back to school, I tried balancing my time as a stay at home dad and working full time and realized it was a very challenging course. I had to rush from one place to another to be at the right time at the right place. My personal responsibility here was that I had to make sure that my role at work was played effectively and efficiently as well as keep up with my studies. I had to prioritize my time between my family and school (Rickshaus, 2013). My program was always very tight and had to follow it to the latter. When it was family time I had to ensure that every minute was spent entirely with them and when it was time for another thing I had to be there on time. This required proper time management and strict policies. It taught me to properly prioritize on things. At my work place I had to ensure that my duties and responsibilities remained effective. This was my responsibility to ensure that I was accountable for everything I did. The main reason why I decided to go back to college was to obtain and utilize my education. I had to be responsible for my actions and have something to show for it. After I had acquired this education I would use it to change my family life and positively change the society.
Finally, it is important to learn that working under a tight schedule adds more responsibility to people’s lives, I realized that being in college make people more responsible as it helps them program and account for their time and resources. It helped me learn how to balance my work, play my role at home as well as be at school and maintain better grades. This boosted my responsibility and helped me become a more organized man. It also helped me learn that honesty proper choices could change people’s lives immensely. In addition to this, it helped me utilize my resources appropriately in a way that required family support. This involved consultation and proper budgeting.
