Dear Admission Officer:
“Hegel called architecture the mother of all arts; architecture was deemed autonomous and inclusive of all other fields” (Fields 53). It is equivalent to a story that you create out of your own imagination. This is my intention when I decided to apply for Master of Architecture (M.Arch.) programme in your prestigious university which is to create my own story by carving a space that I want by using my own passion and imagination. My main interest of study is designing a space, which is the module I consider important because it uses different mediums to create an idea or represent a thought. I earned a degree in Bachelor of Science in Interior Design from the College of Architecture and Urban Studies in Virginia Tech (Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University) in 2012 where I graduated with honors. After winning first place in Elite Office Design Competition in 2011 in school, I came to realize that my profound passion in designing spaces because I consider this endeavor as a great expansion to my design career which will bring out the best of my abilities, ingenuity and creativity.
In the summer of 2011, I went to London to assist designers with design development and constructed models for various projects for Target leaving. During the summer of 2010, I assisted designers with concept development and space planning for WATG in London. For my last project in school, I decided to take on an architecture project and entered the C2C competition where I designed an eco-friendly house. It became an interest of self-discovery as I recognized my immense interest in architecture and how it can affect the daily life of the people.
One of the greatest academic achievements I accomplished is when I became part of the Academic Dean’s list for the past 4 years covering the years 2009-2012. I am proud to be recognized as part of ITA all Academic Honor Roll from 2010-2011; ACC Academic Honor Roll for the years 2007, 2009 and 2011 and Athletic Director’s Honor Roll for 2007, 2010 and 2011. In order to balance my academic achievements, I became a member of the women’s tennis team where I won Rookie of the Year in 2008, and the most valuable player for the years 2009, 2010 and 2012, respectively. I was also a recipient of ITA/Arthur Ashe Award for Leadership and Sportsmanship for the Atlantic Region in 2011. Aside from these academic achievements, I was able to strike a balance by playing tennis and won during competitions. I have excellent communications skills highlighted by my proficiency in English, German, French and Arabic languages.
The last two internships in London motivated me to take up Master of Architecture due to my fascination and interest architecture and industrial design. With this course, I will be able to enhance my understanding on architectural practice and theory. I always want to back to basic education that is strongly fits my interest in design, sustainability, theory, technology, historic preservation and urban planning. Thus, entering this course is a journey that is important to enrich my architectural understanding as I learn from all my personal experiences that will enrich my design thoughts. My interest to enroll in the Master of Architecture course of your high-acclaimed university has been attributed after receiving encouraging references from former professors, teachers and friends who are studying in your university.
I am fully aware of the highly competitive demands of this course. However, I am confident that I will be able to finish the programme equipped with excellent competencies, motivation and ambition to pursue a successful career. The seriousness of the study load for this programme is highly anticipated and I clearly manifest my willingness to comply with the extremely arduous undertaking. I am proud to say that I have proven myself worthy to be admitted in the programme based on my outstanding academic records. I will be very honored and privileged to be given the chance to pursue my dream of becoming one of the female architects in the Middle East and return to my hometown Egypt, as I share my knowledge and expertise with my fellowmen. I see it as a long-term goal with the purpose of making a remarkable impact in my country’s by preserving our rich history and culture using a combination of classic and contemporary architectural design to bring glory to my homeland. It is my mission to return to my homeland and help my poor countrymen have a better life and build them shelter using economical and innovative resources available in my country. I aspire to work in an architecture firm after graduating with the intention to incorporate change through functional innovation by using smart designs. I believe that I will become a good architect someday and I am hopeful that this life-long dream will finally be fulfilled through the topnotch training and education that the university will bestow upon me.
I look forward to your favorable response regarding my application.
Sincerely yours,
