Personal Statement On My Interest In Becoming A Pharmacist

I would describe myself as a highly motivated, ambitious, and independent young adult. I am self-driven and always work extremely hard to attain the goals I set out to achieve. Furthermore, I am a very active young person and to that extent, I have participated in numerous activities beyond academics. For instance, I attended Fitness Fun and Games where I modeled. I also joined the step team and in due course, I was nominated as the team captain. Being the captain of a team was particularly instrumental in shaping my leadership skills. It also equipped me with important skills of handling people which I believe will be of great use to me in the career path I have chosen. I also played recreational soccer and softball. During my sophomore year, I joined the Poly cheer leading team, which I am still a member up to date. In matters academics, my favorite subjects are chemistry and biology. I particularly enjoy biology because it has enabled me to understand how the human body works. As for chemistry, the numerous experiments it entails aroused my curiosity in the subject. Furthermore, a fusion of the two to provide solutions to human ailments was of particular interest to me. I believe that doing well in both subjects will greatly enhance my career aspirations of becoming a top notch pharmacist.
When on holiday, I participated in various activities a number of which I volunteered. For instance, I worked for the John Hopkins Summer program. This was particularly influential program for me as it exposed me to a number of issues. However, what stands out is that the program taught me the importance of independence and that I could rely on myself. It is also instrumental in reinforcing my desire to become a pharmacist.
My family values education very much. Both my parents played a key role in shaping my interest in pharmacy right from my formative years. My mother is a registered Certified Pharmacy Technician while my father holds a doctoral degree. From the very onset, the academic qualifications of my parents have fuelled in me a desire to work hard so that I may achieve or even surpass their academic achievements. I aspire to become a Certified Pharmacy Technician like my mother but go beyond that and acquire a doctoral degree like my father. My doctoral degree will however, be in the field of pharmacy. Beyond that I intend to become a widely published pharmacist in pharmaceutical journals. I look forward to being among the generation of pharmacists who will be at the forefront in initiating and sustaining partnerships with professionals in other fields. These partnerships will ideally aim at tackling multifaceted problems which are not entirely anchored in one field but which nuance on a number of fields including pharmacy.
When I was young, I used to accompany my mother to work and had an opportunity to closely interact with one of the pharmacists. This was a big influence on my decision to pursue a career in pharmacy. The interactions enabled me to realize that I had developed a keen interest in the field and that it was one I could actually blend in well. Pursuant to this, I have always been the one who assists my grandmother with her medicine whenever she falls sick. It is an activity I gladly undertake because for me, it is the best I have come to see pharmacy in action thus far. I hope that I will one day be the one advising her on the dosage of the drugs.
