The institutional affiliation
Nowadays with increasing expenses on healthcare sector, many people still cannot have the proper medical service. At this point, it becomes the sphere of interest for social workers who help such people to navigate the world of healthcare. Social workers address the social, emotional and financial needs that often accompany healthcare issues. Thus, they help people to deal with difficulties which happen to be the consequences of life traumas, crucial changes and social injustice (Sokanu.com, 2016).
During my university practice I had the chance to meet many people with certain disabilities and also children from low-income or dysfunctional families who simply could not get the necessary medical treatment. Moreover, after having such experience, I realized that there is much work to be done to solve the healthcare issues; nevertheless, this is certainly the area I would like to gain more knowledge in. When the government cannot fully take care of such people, the social organizations along with the social workers take all the responsibility for their supporting. In addition, my commitment to study for the Master of Arts in Social Work would be the next logical step in developing myself in social work sector after gaining the Bachelor of Arts in May, 2016.
Currently I am running my own dance program for little girls aged 6-13 what gives me great experience of working with younger generations. Interacting with children of different age groups requires certain knowledge of psychology and physiology which helps to organize work in the correct and the most effective way. It also helps me to develop my own communication skills and the ability to build productive working relationships. In addition to this, it is showing how committed I can be to my responsibilities, as well as demonstrating my skills as a good facilitator. Moreover, I would be happy to develop some new programs for those children, who in spite of their disabilities still would like to try themselves in dancing. It would help break the wall between them and the outer world, as well as make them back to normal life as much as it can be possible.
I feel I have the skills and a strong desire to develop myself as a social worker after my graduation. I have always been a very friendly person and a “shoulder to cry on” for my relatives and friends when needed, and I know how much difference just a friendly face can make in times of trouble. Not once I have been told that I am a good listener and an easy-going person who can be relied on. I enjoy working in a team with other people, especially with children. Moreover, no matter what my task is I always try to do my best to reach the maximum result. I believe my ability to demonstrate personal qualities of tact, empathy and diplomacy in challenging and conflict situations has convinced me even more that I am suitable for the work in the social field.
Outside of my work and studies, I am always eager to improve my knowledge of profession and be aware of the latest developments and news in the social sector. I read numerous social work-related magazines to know more about every-day challenges and histories from the social worker’s life. I try to analyze each particular case by asking myself what my actions would be in this or that situation. It serves me well for exercising purposes where I can apply all my knowledge for solving different kinds of issues.
Nevertheless, looking at my previous experience, I still feel that I have not enough knowledge to provide social services on the highest level. Moreover, I do realize that social work can be full of unexpected challenges requiring much patience and preparations. To become a professional individual means to be able to solve problems, no matter whether it is work with a child or an adult with post-traumatic stress disorder or a patient with a mental disorder or illness who needs some assistance. I believe that the Master of Arts in Social Studies will equip me with all the necessary knowledge, teach those techniques I need to know to organize an effective working process with such people and, thus, it would be the final step in my studying of the Social Work.
In the future I would like to assist people in handling their own problems, as well as empowering them to gain certain skills so that they can do it themselves. Thus, working in Social Services in the hospital or in one of rehabilitation centers would allow me to devote my time and knowledge to help people reach to the best of their abilities. What I find very important is that social work is not just a career perspective for me; I find it as the devotion of my whole life. I see my career objectives in specializing in behavioral, mental and emotional disorders or in helping patients with physical illnesses and difficult traumas. I also like the idea of working closely with doctors and nurses, as each medical case requires our good cooperation. In fact, doctors may send patients to medical social workers when there is some assistance needed in helping them to adjust their lifestyles.
In order to become one step closer to these perspectives, I am applying for a Master of Social Work which is necessary for fulfillment of my plans. I completely realize the whole responsibility which social workers have on their shoulders, but at the same time I have no doubt that I am ready to take this challenge with all the dedication and passion. I am a very responsible person who is determined to succeed. Moreover, I have proved my dedication and passion for the social science, while studying for the Bachelor of Arts by showing good results and proper work.
The opportunity to study for the Master of Arts in Social Work would fuel my passion to help other people, especially those who really need it. I will use all the gained knowledge for the good of the society and will do my best to contribute to the further development and improvement of the social work services. I am very thankful for your time of reading my application and I would really appreciate if you consider me as a possible candidate for gaining the Master’s Degree in Social Work.
