Every single phenomenon in this world is based on the figures – either this is the simplest electronic device, or the money in a wallet, or logistics, or even a boiling kettle. Absolutely everything we are surrounded by is all about figures. No wonder that the first time I closely got acquainted with the world of figures was when I was a child. Thanks to my family I was able to realize a significant importance of those amusing hooks scratched on the paper very early and thus, it helped me shape my life and career aspirations before I actually could think them over.
When I was in primary school, I used to help my mother in her small jewelry store - and by help I do not mean constantly distracting her from work. I actually was involved in the business right away – I learnt the qualities and characteristics of all items in the store inside out, I had a tenacious memory so I got to know every client who came in our store more than once, and I reminded my mother to give discounts to our loyal clients. I guess helping my mother was the first really important turning point in my life – that was when I got obsessed with business and decided to dedicate my professional life to it.
I did not have to wait long until I could decide the specific area of business I would like to be involved in – accounting. This happened when I started working for the biggest local apparel shop FreeBird right after my graduation from high school. Having a great desire to show the best results at sales, I learnt all about the performance evaluation system of the company – that was when my close attention to the figures started to be professional. The combination of basic accounting knowledge and being professional at fashion made me one of the best shop assistants at that company. Surely, it inspired me to get deeper knowledge in the area of accounting and, consequently, get closer to my dream of building an outstanding business career.
Having a clear goal of getting into accounting and business led me to an overwhelming desire to use any possibility of gaining professional experience in this area. Fortunately, I was lucky enough: I found out that my father’s patient was the chairman of a stationery manufacturing company and on the 45th company’s anniversary he told my father that his biggest disappointment in life was that for some reason his company, Eagle, could not withstand competition with other companies in the country. That was a perfect impetus for me to take my independent significant step to the world of business – I wrote a marketing proposal for Eagle. The company’s management was so impressed by the proposal that I was given an opportunity to work for the company – in any department I would like to.
Surely, I have already made a lot of efforts to gain the knowledge I need so much: I successfully accomplished such courses as the Principle of Accounting, Intermediate Accounting, Cost Management and I am currently learning Advanced Accounting and Auditing. These courses help me understand main principles of accounting and guide me to the deeper knowledge of accounting step by step. Besides, I learnt how all the theoretical knowledge in accounting should be applied in practice – the course of Financial management helped me do so.
Moreover, I never miss a chance to enrich my outlook, personal and professional skills by going abroad. During the summer holiday of my freshman year, I joined the HKBU summer program – I had a great opportunity to get to know Hong Kong, one of the largest business cities. After my second year of university, I was enrolled to the international program of University of Victoria as a student with good academic performance and excellent language skills. As a result, I was able to take two important courses there – Service Management and Leadership. Getting valuable knowledge along with excellent marks and priceless experience, I was inspired to take a chance and study abroad – I chose Australia as my ultimate goal.
I strongly believe that I possess all essential qualities for building my career in Accounting. First of all, I always try to be very professional and flexible – an accountant should definitely know what he or she is doing and act appropriately with different people, under different conditions. Secondly, there is nothing better for an accountant than having a very good and exact memory – that is one of my abilities I am really happy to have. Thirdly, I consider myself to be a very objective person and a plain dealer – this helps me face the problems and resolve them, rather than evade them. Moreover, I possess good communication skills that are crucial in business affairs. Besides, I am quite self-critical that helps me detect my mistakes and flaws and work as hard as possible in order to correct them and improve my professional and personal skills.
Although I have already got high scores on business and accounting courses and worked as an intern for three companies, I realize that the education and experience I have gained so far is not enough for me to accomplish my goals: first, becoming a CPA and ultimately – a CFA in the international company. I am strongly convinced that Australia and specifically your school would be the best choice for me to get what I have been craving for all my life. Besides, I am pretty sure that studying and working in Australia in tandem with Australian culture will not only help me achieve my professional goals and aspirations, but also will make me more open-minded, tolerant and a much better person in all aspects. I am ready to do my best and overcome any obstacles in order to explore my opportunities and be all that I can be in this life.
