“Who Moved My Cheese” is a movie with four main characters; Scurry, Sniff, Hem, and Haw, who represent real life situations and how different people respond to them. Some people are open to change, while others keep on holding to current situations hoping that they will change for the better. This paper looks into the personality of the characters and explains various ways in which in those traits help in their venture of searching for cheese.
Sniff is adventurous and an innovator as well. He has the capability to sense and responds promptly to changes taking place in the maze. He gets enthusiastic about generating new things and is not afraid of using trial and error to discover new things. This personality of Sniff comes in handy in helping him come out of his comfort zone and have the will to look for more cheese. (Johnson, 1998)
Scurry, just like Sniff is a go getter. He scurries into action and is not afraid of the repercussions that may come due to changing the current situation. His ability to dash forward helps him in being aware of his immediate environment and having the will to discover more cheese.
Hem denies and repels change. He is afraid that if he moves, he may never find any cheese, and keeps on asking, “Who moved my cheese” instead of soldering right ahead to look for more (Johnson, 1998). This personality makes him lose on the opportunity of discovering greener pastures.
Haw, in as much as he is sluggish in adapting to the current environment, he adapts with time. He discovers that he made a mistake and even wonders why he did not move sooner. The ability to being aware of his surroundings helps him leave the station without cheese, which leads him to be reunited with Sniff and Scurry.
This movie is a lesson to those that keep on holding to an undesirable situation hoping that things will transform for the better, or being scared that the change may not work out for them. Change is something that is inescapable and individuals should not be afraid to give it a try.
