Various perspectives of policing functions at the state level
Policing or simply law enforcement in the US is deemed to be a rather complicated activity. The overall role perspectives of the three levels of policing agencies in the US involve fighting, deterring and controlling crime. That said, it is important to note that the functioning at the state level includes activities like controlling crime in the highways, law enforcement in towns which lack officers, statewide crime investigations, administrative roles, technical duties as well as court-related functions (McGraw- Hill Education, n.d).
The organization and management of the federal level constitute governance by bodies like the Federal Bureau of Investigation together with the Directorate of Homeland Security, majorly. Other agencies include but are not limited to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (US), Federal Bureau of Prisons and the Customs and Border Protection. The above governing bodies enforce rules and regulations contained in the criminal code of the US. The bodies also show that the federal level of policing is characterized by a limitation of authority at the congressional perspectives with the presence of bureaucracy (McGraw- Hill Education, n.d). The state level management of agencies, on the other hand, is notable as state police, highway officers patrol, or investigative in state departments as they carry out investigative as well as roles in regulation.
Improvement of functions at the local, state and federal levels
The roles at the local, state and federal level can be improved by any changes in statutes that govern law enforcement. Additionally, provision of adequate resources for the three policing levels in a reasonable manner is critical for improvement of the activities of the levels as mentioned above. The other way improvement can be notable is the provision of sound and tailored structures for the various levels of jurisdiction to facilitate accommodation of national organizations that play different roles with an emphasis on intelligence capacities and support to promote the intelligence pursuits especially for the local and state levels (Steiner, 2009) of policing.
