Introduction
Peter Eisenman’s architect consists of a large plain, rectangular stones of varying heights covering over five acres of undulating land. Germany desired to build a memorial that was to assist as a way of apologizing to the community of the Jew and a memory of public memory. This makes it differ from other current architecture for instance, Roma/sinti and lesbian gays that are concerned with gender rights urging the state to embrace gender equality.
The “Ort” (an underground place where information is stored) was a brilliant idea and a radical approach. The total number that was used as slabs differs in structure of grids, and heights have no significant representation in accordance with the belief that that interpretation ought to be left to the viewer. The only description of the site is found in the title.
Though the title is physically represented at the site, its choice is still manifested mentally. As it connotes that the memorials purpose is to serve an expression of regret by the Germans for the crimes they committed towards the Jews at the time of the holocaust. Its semantics are misleading in that the implication concentrates its devotion on those receiving the apology and it ignores the corresponding significance of those apologizing that dominates over the other as well as those who were murdered but died for other reasons. This is important in an attempt by Germany to reconcile with its past. The best title would be “Holocaust effects” this ensures that all people affected whether Jews or Germans are honored.
The memorial serves as a way to improve Germany’s images in the eyes of outsiders. This was why it was constructed in Washington DC. Every claim that Emmaly Reed is ridiculous as she gives ammunition and so she is a liar for holocaust is a hoax. She is an insult to those who actually suffered.
