I have chosen the Information Technology industry. I suppose it has a lot of opportunities after graduation. IT sector is the biggest innovative industry in the country. Microsoft is the most famous company in this field, it is well-known for producing software for personal computers, mobile phones and other devices.. Microsoft has offices all over the world and it is considered on of the largest companies in the world. I have contacted local HR manager, David Young. We appointed an interview in his office. The interview lasted for 30 minutes during his coffe break.
During the interview I asked several questions regarding HR management in Microsoft Corporation. David Young is working for Microsoft Corporation on a position of HR manager for the last two years. I asked him who is a human resources manager? He answered, that now the personnel manager (in the best case, the personnel department) can have a very wide border activity - for example, to carry out security functions, gathering information about employees and employee event or function - developing and organizing entertainment events. The main work of the HR-specialist, lies in the performance of certain responsibilities requiring special knowledge and professionalism. For example, the organization fill vacancies, conducting training activities, organization of assessment / certification of personnel, creating a culture of work with the staff, the introduction of procedures to work with personnel, such as the interview for admission or dismissal of employees, talk about development, etc. I also asked what qualities should a good personnel manager have? David said that HR Manager is a profession. And, first of all, one must have a basic knowledge in this area, and then, some qualities. In his opinion, the lack of professionalism of experts begins with the fact that any person who was the head of at least one employee, can say that he / she "managed staff. David Young is convinced that the best HR managers have a psychology degree, on which is superimposed professional experience. I think that the key for hr-professional is to have a psychological knowledge and understand the business. I have also asked what advantages does he see in your profession and whether there are disadvantages, or rather the difficulties encountered? He was talking about professional deformation. It is incredibly difficult to communicate with people who are not passionate about anything or work for the unloved work. It is difficult to refrain from advising applicants for the vacancy. That was my last question so I thanked him for attention and left the office. Two day later, I sent him a greeting card just to show my attention.
My overall reaction to the interview is positive. I think that I can aquire all the necessary skills to get the vacation in the near future. It would be very comfortable for me to work in this field, I find it interesting and attractive. That’s why I believe I can obtain this type of goal. The interview showed me that a true specialist working in this field need a lot of knowledge and experience. So, to obtain such skills, a potential worker should spend a lot of time at studying and dedicate himself to the work.
