Independent Media Center
The independent media center comprises of a collective network of journalists whose main task is reporting on social and political issues (IMC). The main mission of the media house is to report the truth from a passionate, accurate and radical perspective. The media house is in the mission of working and representing the people who strive to make the world a better place. It seeks to present a different perspective away from any corporate distortion as has been the case with other media houses (IMC).
The media house is sponsored by various foundations and donors that are not specified but is possibly by other donors especially those that fund activism. The media house main advertisers are its affiliate media houses that include its own newspaper, audio segments, and radio station based in Seattle (IMC).The target market from this list appears to be enthusiasts of the media house who possess radical views and are seeking a quest for truth reporting. The owners of the media house are hard to determine since they are a collective network of activist enthusiasts and journalists.
The media house has its affiliates in various places of the world that include Urbana-Champaign Independent Media Center and DC media center among others. The affiliates are just indicative of its diverse network of media houses in the quest for representation. A person willing to participate in the media house can do so by viewing their websites and commenting on the issues that they may be willing to communicate. They are open, inclusive, and diverse such that people are free to participate on the topical issues the media house is handling, tackling or even addressing (IMC).
Media Research Center
The Media Research Center (MRC) is a media house that was started by conservatives in 1987. The president who was also its founder was L. Brent Bozell III (MRC). The media house mainly does a content analysis that is politically conservative. The mission of the media house is to play the role of a watchdog entity. They desist from lobbying legislation or even politicians. They expose and neutralize any propaganda that is coming from the arm of the Left. The media house receives funding from various foundations that includeOlin, Castle Bradley, Rock, Carthage and Scaife foundations among others. The advertisements in the media station are mainly focused on its other affiliates that are part of it that include TV channel, and newsletter outlets and reports. The target is mostly all Americans with the focus on informing them of left-wing media bias (MRC).
In analyzing the extent the media houses define Public Interest Convenience Or Necessity (PICON), it is good to view them from the perspective of media watchdog review. The concept of a media watchdog is mostly premised on issues that are of public interest. Issues that are public of interest are those that are the heart of the public that affects them directly or indirectly. They are issues that influence the well-being of citizens depending on the way they are handled. The media has to be on the frontline in exposing any tendencies that are untoward from those people entrusted with this ultimate responsibility. They should be autonomous, unbiased, and objective of their coverage of the news.
In the case of Independent Media Center, I want to believe that it has PICON at its heart judging from the way it is open, inclusive and diverse in its coverage of issues that are of public interest. To them, they have the public in mind and the things that are of necessity to them. Such an attitude is what stays true to the tenets of PICON. The good thing is that it does not allow to be influenced by external forces that might comprise this very objective.
In the case of the Media Research Center, and judging from its role in the industry, it has stayed true to its mandate of remaining objective to its mission of playing the public watchdog. The majority of its viewers agree that the media house role as a watchdog of the liberal media has been exemplary for the last two decades. It is not hard to see from the way it executes the services in its various divisions. Many are the times the issues it is pursuing conform to the true spirit of PICON. Encouraging the public to join its movement to neutralize liberal media is just one way it serves the issues that are of public interest and indeed of necessity.
