Introduction.
Peter Weiss write the play Marat/Sade. The play was written in the year 1963, the work was first published in Germany. The play has dramatic elements and features of both Artaud and Bertol. It deals mainly in the struggle of classes and looks at the human suffering and these provoke the question of where true revolution comes from.
The play is set on historical Charenton Asylum. It is a story that took place in 1808when the French had there revolution. The main actors are those people confined in an asylum and the nurses in this asylum are the one to restore order. The Director of the hospital is Coulmier and supervises the activity-taking place here with the help of the wife and daughter. He is in support of Napoleon government that is because of revolution.His patients have other ideas apart from his of the play being endorsed by the government. The patient has the habit of saying word that he had tried to oppress. The people who went into the revolution and came out the same are not happy in that case. Marquis de Sade was the one who directed performance in charentonHe is always not concerned with the politics after that revolution he advocate for his own individual belief. Powerful scene in this play depict him at times being whipped as a result o9f his own instruction.
