Part 1
The Heavy Craft by Page is written using symbolical language which carries a message with a deep message. He starts with the statement that the wax has melted but the dream of flight still persists. One might wonder how a dream of flight might be connected with wax. Wax is used to join two parts to help two parts become stronger. However, in this case, the wax has melted which seems to suggest that he feels that his flight dream is under threat. The theme of this poem is no losing hope no matter what happens. In the poem to a friend whose work has come to triumph by Anne Sexton talks about the story of a brave boy who gets wings to fly but is told not to fly so high. After getting his wings he flies so high, the sun burns his wings, the brave boy falls and dies on the spot. Despite the boy death, the poem sends a symbolical message that you would rather die trying the extraordinary. Even though you might not get to your final destination, what matters is that you tried to do what you believed you could do.
In both poem, the poets use a symbolical language of wings, wax, and flying and dreaming to cover the message they want the reader to get from the poem. Both poets use rhetorical devices which substitute a image which is hidden from the overall message. The use of rhetoric’s reflects on the points artistic skills to have a poem written about something which humans can relate with but uses a language which to the reader my sound like a coded language. Both poems have no transition from one stance to the other. Instead, it is a one stance paragraph. From the reader’s point of view, one can easily relate with the story being advocated for in the poem as both poet have common goals of reminding the reader about believing in yourself.
Part 2 section 1
The poem the time around scar by Michael Ondaatje talks about a narrator who many years ago he accidentally cut a girl with a pen knife. After several years are gone, the narrator still thinks of that girl and the meaningless scar the narrator put on the girls life. The narrator believes that the girl will have to where that scar until the day she will die. The writer of the poem uses her skills to write a symbolic poem that reflects about issues in people’s life which instead of connecting people they separates people. The poet wants the reader to know that in life you may meet people who may appear meaningless in your life but in real sense, they end up being the most influential people even without their knowledge. The narrator has cut the girl with a pen knife and after many years, he still thinks about that girl. This girl must believe that the person who cut has a meaning in her life whenever she sees the scar. In the second poem he fumbles at your soul by Emily Dickinson reflects on the life a narrator who is struggling with faith issues? She is attracted to people but she finds it hard to love them. She has a lover who is inconsistence with his affection. The poet is symbolical in what she is talking about. As you read the poem, one might see love and faith as the two hidden theme in the poem.
Both poems have similarity in terms of the message being carried to the reader. The first poem we see a narrator who is wondering about his meaning to the girl he left with a scar on her body. The narrator does not understand what his role is to the girls he cut with a pen knife. In the second poem, the narrator is not sure about someone whom she claims to love. Both narrators in both poems are uncertain about something. Their uncertainty is as a result of not knowing who their truly are in the life people there are referring to in the poem.
Part 2 section 2
The story about Adam and Eve raises more question than answers about the origin of the world. Looking at biblical view of creation, Adam and Eve were the initial plan of God about the world. However, after they broke the first commandment of God, what happened from there is the second plan of God about this universe. The initial plan was for dam and Eve to live in this world without cloths because they lacked the knowledge to know about nakedness. However, if we look at the bible, we see God sending his son to come to earth to clear the mess was brought by Adam and Eve after failing to obey God’s commandment. Jesus is the son of God and he come to earth to repair what would become the impact of Adam and Eve breaking the commandments of God.
