Becoming a Nurse Essays Examples

As I was growing up, several things happened that inspired me to the nursing profession. Inherently, I am a caring person and almost everything that happened towards motivating me to become a nurse stemmed from my caring attitude. Some two incidences stand out as central motivators to my career choice.
The first incident happened when I was barely 10 years old. My best friend and our next door neighbor hurt her leg badly. She sustained a serious cut and a fracture on her leg and had to be hospitalized for some time. Since I could not be allowed into the hospital wards, I talked to her on the phone on a daily basis. I encouraged her, made some jokes and talked to her about her recovery. I also sent some interesting books for her to read. After two weeks she was discharged to continue her healing at home. I was extremely happy to visit her at home and be of assistance. I helped her walk about, reminded her of her medication, assisted her do some chore such as tidy up her room and many more. Her parents and mine began referring to me as a “nurse”. I felt nice to have that name used on me. I realized that I was taking care of my age mate and friend in an effortless manner and wished that indeed I would grow up to be a nurse.
Following this incident, my parents realized that I was certainly headed for the nursing profession and they got me some two of their friends who were nurses. I was 11 years old when all this was happening, and my inquisitiveness would always lead me to pose some questions to almost all the people I considered knowledgeable of nursing that I came about.
The other incident happened when I was turning thirteen. Some nurses came to our school to offer some basic education on how we would maintain high levels of hygiene while at school. They looked very smart and sharp. I admired their courage and high levels of knowledge on health issues. I was particularly happy when they asked for some students to volunteer and become ambassadors of the hygiene campaign. I gladly raised up my hand and matched to the front much to the amusement of the nurses. I had a chat with one of them who commended me for my bravery and interest in nursing. She told me that she could see a great nurse in me and that I ought to give serious thought to the profession. That evening I had a lengthy talk with my parents and they promised to support me in all ways possible to help me realize my dream.
Over the next years my parents guided me on the subjects in which I had to excel in school if I was to become a nurse. They guided me on the programs to watch and some essential books to read and get more inspiration and insight into what nurses do.
Two experiences during my formative years during my formative years had greatly inspired me to become a nurse. The first was a time when I acted as a “nurse” to my friend who was recuperating from a serious leg injury. The second, an interaction with some nurses and volunteering to serve, as an ambassador for a hygiene program at school. Am grateful to my parents and the nursing professionals that i have interacted with so far for helping get closer to my dream.
