Immigration policy
The United state has over the years witnessed the growing number of the nurses that enter the country. This has been coupled with many problems such as displacement of the local nursing labor. The government views the recruitment of the foreign nurses as a means of increasing the dependency rate of the United States. It is agreed that the hiring of the short-term foreign nurses can be of great help, but when done in a repetitive manner, it can have some adverse effects on the profession in the United States such as high dependency level (Ivanov & Blue, 2008). It is for these reasons that the United States has employed the use of immigration policy to regulate the number of nurses entering the county
A similar nursing immigration policy is also applied in the United Kingdom. The system employed by the government of the UK is similar to that of the US since both are aimed at reducing the high number of foreign nurses in the country (Bodvarsson & Van, 2013). The nursing policy in the United Kingdom is different from that of the US since it only allows for a nurse to say in the country if he or she has a minimum wage of 35000 Euros. This is contrary to that of the US since the US does not discriminate of by minimum salary.
World health organization plays a significant role in the immigration policies. The international body argues that there should be an establishment of a supportive living and working environment to ensure professional growth in the health sector so that the health workers can have little or no migration. The organization is also aimed at the implementation of the 2010 code on the international hiring of health workers.
