Seven months ago a tragedy shocked the whole world: Polish President Lech Kaczynski died in plane crash. Each and every person all over the world was shocked, let alone citizens of Poland, who admitted that that very tragedy was the most tragic event after WWII.
The article in the BBC newspaper sheds light on the event: 14 April 2010 the plane with Lech Kaczynski with Poland's army chief, central bank governor, MPs and leading historians and other passengers were flying from Warsaw to Smolensk to mark the 70th anniversary of the Katyn massacre of thousands of Poles during WWII. According to the reports of Russian and Polish investigators, the pilot did not manage to land because of heavy fog, and the plane apparently hit trees while landing at the airport. Some specialists claim that it was pilot’s fault, while others are convinced that the plane Tupolev 154, a Soviet-designed plane that was more than 20 years old, played its important role as well.
Both Russian and Polish investigators are looking into the tragedy to understand real reasons of the tragedy. However, the reasons which are proposed by the specialists seem to be awfully ridiculous. First of all, it’s common knowledge that only the best pilots, in 99% cases even the military ones, are thoroughly selected for such delegations. There should be no doubt that the pilot was a qualified specialist, and to claim that the pilot could not drive the plane in the fog is at least ridiculous.
Secondly, to claim that the age of the plane also caused the crash is also absurd. It is obvious that for such flights planes are meticulously checked before departure, moreover, according to the reports of the blackboard there were no defects in the plane, which could have caused its crash.
Needless to say, when it comes to such tragedies, many reasons and thoughts appear at once: political, financial, sometimes even religious, what very often leads to endless disputes. Thus, it is definite that the true reason will be disclosed much later or even may not be disclosed at all.
