As a result of the political typology quiz helping to inform me what ideology I have, I would describe my political ideology as next generation left. This means that my political beliefs are that the best way for any government to operate is to advocate a liberal attitude towards many issues that include homosexuality. This means that I am very open to the idea of gay marriage. The results also mean that I am pro-abortion and support the rights of women to abort if that is their personal choice. Because of my beliefs I have a positive view towards the environment that means that I support any efforts governments make to protect the environment. My beliefs are that I support an activist government, but the government should not allow people to become trapped in a social safety net that leaves them in a position where they are dependent upon the government. I have a positive view of Wall Street’s impact on the economy because I believe that the U.S. economy has one of the greatest economies in the world alongside other countries. Many people whose political ideology is ‘next generation left’ would describe themselves as leaning towards the Democratic Party, though few consider themselves to be very strong Democrats.
In terms of political socialisation, many of my friends, family and teachers helped influence my political ideology. A lot of my friends share the same political beliefs that I do. This has helped encourage me to develop my political beliefs that lean towards what many would describe as ‘next generation left’ as I have been around people who share those beliefs and I feel that I would agree with many of their views towards homosexuality and abortion. My family and teachers have helped influence my political beliefs because they have shaped my liberal views towards issues like homosexuality and teaching me to be tolerant towards people of different backgrounds.
Political ideology is very important to me. This is because my beliefs influence my actions in everyday life, not just politically. Politically, my ideology helps influence my decisions as I will always strive to take a positive view towards many issues like homosexuality as I support the latest moves by the U.S. Supreme Court to approve of gay marriage. I also support any policies that the U.S. government pursues to provide women with the right to abort their unborn child if that is the choice that they want to make. I support any moves by the government to help stimulate the economy. This may include the Obama administration’s moves to provide families with tax credits to help children progress throughout their academic career in school. I also support any policies that the U.S. government advocates that would help make the environment better such as policies that would help reduce greenhouse gases. These beliefs also affect my everyday actions in my personal life as well. I am very tolerant towards people who are homosexual and would support any woman I know when she is going through an abortion. Therefore, I feel that the results of the political typology test accurately reflect my political ideology in many ways. This is because many of the beliefs of the ‘next generation left’ are also the same political beliefs that I have as well.
