Introduction
As a presidential candidate, one would express and present himself as a totally different person in order to gain votes from the people. One of the known Republican Presidential nominees is Donald Trump who gained much attention from the public as well as from the Democratic Party. Mr. Trump, based on his political ideologies, holds a different view when it comes to leading the country if elected as the President of the United States. The purpose of this writing is to present the reasons as to why some of the members and leaders of the Republican Party put them on the state of alarmed and frenzy based on Mr. Trump’s ideology. We argue that although he leads the Presidential nomination for the Republican Party, Mr. Trump has the political ideology that is different from the traditional conservatism.
Political Ideology
According to Linker (2015), the Republican Party is currently on the ideological insurrection after the emergence of the top three Republican nominees. Thus, many leaders of the Republican Party have reacted differently especially when Mr. Trump became the party’s presidential nominee. Being on this position, Mr. Trump may have influenced many Republicans to believe in his political ideology, which is far different from what was the party’s ideology was. The Republican Party left the traditional conservatism in exchange for the idea of radicalism (Brooks 2015). In fact, it is evident in the news that many Republicans act revolutionarily based on the political ideologies that Mr. Trump has presented to the public. As a result, many leaders of the Republican Party reacted alarmingly as such ideology is somewhat dissimilar with the contemporary conservatism’s belief.
Generally, conservatism may have had a different meaning in today’s time. During the old days, people have more commitments on ideologies, they broader moral outlook, and there was a deeper fundamental that defines conservatives from their opponents. Now, when conservatives are ask about what they believe in individual freedom, they would tend to answer similarly with what their opponents believe as well.
Brooks (2015) also added that the traditional characteristic of conservatism represents intellectual humility and a strong belief about incremental change. Thus, the old conservatism has a strong belief about reform instead of using revolution as a way to change the society. This is another thing that made some of the leaders of the Republican Party as Mr. Trump may have had some pronouncements that are different from the idea of traditional conservatism. Additionally, traditional conservatives hold a high respect towards precedence, hierarchy as well as to the order and balance. They have a responsible, measurable and cautious tone of voice. There are many reasons as to why these Republican Party leaders felt alarmingly worried about Mr. Trump’s political ideologies and pronouncements. For example, when Mr. Trump claimed that the presiding judge over a lawsuit against Trump University is a Pro-Mexican (Gore, 2016). Many people viewed this statement as racist and inappropriate.
Conclusion
Conservatism has the ideology that has been traditionally in practice for many years now. The Republican Party, along with Mr. Trump’s nomination was able to change the traditional conservatism to its new definition. Generally, it is still important that the traditional political ideology of conservatism should not be abandoned and the belief on humility through respect and cautious tone of voice must be preserved in order to keep order and balance on both political parties. In that case, leaders and other members of Republican Party can have a holistic view of the party is fighting for instead of an individual political belief or ideology that comes from a single person such as Mr. Trump.
