Pollution in brief refers to the condition and state where harmful substances and material spoil and corrupt the good nature of the environment thereby making human life inhabitable. Increased human activities have been known and proved to affect the ozone layer, therefore, in the long run, global warming might occur. Human activities which encourage pollution include cutting down of trees of natural forest thereby deforesting them. It goes without saying that rains are water catchment spot and any interference in terms of reducing the number of trees would encourage pollution. In this line of thought, pollution would include activities such as soil erosion.
Developed and industrialised countries are major contributors of environmental pollution. Most of the industries emit toxic carbon element into the environment, this type of pollution is called air pollution. Most of the industries use crude energy sources and the end product is usually harmful and toxic, thus, while it is introduced to the environment; it would pollute and interfere with the structure of the ozone layer. This interference would then cause another environmental and pollution problem known as global warming. In summary, global warming refers to the weather of uncertainties ad extremities-the weather becomes unpredictable. If it rains, it would be beyond expectations and imaginations while the sunshine levels would also be unpredictable.
In brief, the book challenges students and learners in general to collect geographical data on how human activities mentioned above and others affect the environment and cause pollution. It is evidently clear that the effects of the human activities have a negative implication on the general eco-system. If the human activities of deforestation, emission of the toxic substance and others are not controlled, human life would be under threat.
