First off, the choice of article by Niurka Gonzalez is good because the article talks about some of the key things to do in order to communicate effectively. Moreover, the summary provided proves that the article is informative and practical in its approach. Nevertheless, although I agree that all the five aspects listed in the article (speech and attentiveness, body language, communication consistency and patience and practice) are important, I am of the opinion that some of the aspects are more important than others. To me, practice is the most important aspect of effective communication. My belief arises from the fact that without regular practice, all the other aspects of communication may not be brought out effectively during communication. However, regular practice enables the communicator to realize their weak areas thus giving them the opportunity to improve. Additionally, all the other aspects of effective communication may not be right, but without good message delivery (gained through practice) the communication may not leave an impact.

The choice of article by Valerie Thompson is good because the article gives insight into one of the areas that tend to be overlooked in communication: body language. I agree with Valerie that understanding the cultural background of the audience is a crucial aspect in body language communication. Nevertheless, I do not think that a communicator should be too immersed in getting the body language part right without paying close attention to other areas that make communication effective. Not that I am against making sure that one’s body language gives the right message, but I am just advocating for a balance such that the communicator does not focus on getting the body language right and fail to take care of other crucial aspects of making communication effective.
