Domestic violence is a behavioral pattern that greatly involves violence against any member a family context. Domestic violence aims at gaining control and or domination of one person over another within the framework of an intimate relationship or marriage. This behavior mostly is seen in men towards their wives. World organizations have come to talk about it in different ways. Some have drawn the Power Control Wheel while others have drawn the House of Abuse to try to expose the forms of abuses women undergo. Their aim is to create awareness among women in order to detect early signs of marriage abuse and try to avoid it in the future. Also, the articles want to make the world realize what women undergo (Envision Counseling & Support Centre Inc.).
Firstly, the two articles show a lot of similarities. Both diagrams are summaries of significant information. They are both talking about the forms of abuse directed toward women by their fellow husbands. Both are speaking about the forms of emotional abuses women face such as being made to feel humiliated, calling her names and even playing her mind games. Both are pointing male privilege where men misuse their power by branding themselves as the masters of the house while despising the wife. Also, both are talking about economic or financial abuses women face. The husband is the sole provider of the family and even denies the woman from getting a job to make her money. Also, the two talks about men’s intimidation to their wives as a form of abuse. Men make their wives feel threatened and to fear for their security. In addition, the two do not give any solutions to these problems in the society although they are creating self-awareness. The two articles are symbolisms of their names do not point on the abuses men face under their wives (Envision Counseling & Support Centre Inc.).
On the other hand, the two diagrams have a significant difference in what they are talking about. The Power Control Wheel has two groups; physical violence and sexual violence while the House of Abuse focuses on general forms of abuses. The House of Abuse goes beyond and talks of religious forms of violations where the man uses his religion to justify his actions and also social isolation for the women. The Power Control Wheel seems to be more summarized than the House of Abuse for on every topic in the Power Control Wheel diagram looks smaller than that of the other diagram. In addition, the Power Control Wheel diagram is of the shape of a wheel while the House of Abuse is of the form of a house that represents their names (Envision Counseling & Support Centre Inc.).
In conclusion, the two diagrams are aimed at educating both the society and the women on the forms of abuses they go through with their husbands. The two articles seem biased for they are not talking about the abuses men face. Domestic violence being a self-dominating want by on person greatly affects the marriage negatively. The abused partner faces a lot of challenges, and this can adversely change one’s life. Domestic abuses have their solutions although they are not included in the diagrams. With this awareness, the society and the people being affected can come together to solve this issue in a knowledgeable manner so as to avoid future abuses in their marriages.
