Prejudice, stereotypes, discrimination and privilege
A social issue is that which concerns and affects the lives of individuals directly or indirectly within a society (Mooney, Knox & Schacht, 2012). Societies are very distinct but may have similar or different social issues considering that all human societies are composed of humans who share more or less similar characteristics.
Lack of employment has been a nagging social issue for a long period of time now. For instance, the rate of unemployment was at about 7.8 percent close to the end of the year in 2012. Citizens of minority races have in a way been sidelined in terms of employment opportunities. This has consequently increased dependency on the federal government which as a result places a heavier tax burden on the working economy.
The United States constitutions clearly states in the bill of rights that all human beings are equal and none should be discriminated against based on his or her racial orientation. Citizens should also be treated equally according to the equal rights proposition. It is thus imperative that corporate be impartial when employing people while the federal government works hard to ensure that the level of unemployment deeps even lower. The available jobs at the moment though should be given out without discriminating minority races or ethnic communities.
The federal government will have fulfilled the equal rights proposition and minimized the unemployment issue if it ensures that due process is followed in employment. This will go a long way in not only reducing the tax payers burden but also in eradicating other social issues that arise due to unemployment such as crime and prostitution among others. Equality should and must be observed at all times and in all sectors.
